I'm Caitlin Rose Kenny and this is a new format I'm exploring.
It's short and simple and I'm sharing a little bit of poetry to make it sweeter.
Today's yoga sesh is just one pose.
It has two sides and it's called folded wing.
You'll be holding each side for five minutes and you'll hear a bell go off when we begin and a bell to go off at the end when you can release.
While you're in the pose you'll hear me speaking a poem I wrote called Cosmos.
Let's begin.
Lay down on your back.
To come into folded wing,
Prop your right foot on the ground,
Roll to your left and flip your right hand behind your back,
The back of your hand touching your t-shirt,
And then roll your body weight down to the ground so that your palm presses into the ground.
Notice how your shoulder feels.
If it's too intense,
Roll to your left.
Try moving your right hand down and a little bit closer to your spine.
You could go as low as placing your right hand underneath your buttocks and then rest your body weight over your hand.
Once you've settled on the position you will stay in for five minutes,
Relax your legs and turn your head to the left away from your folded wing.
Settle in.
It smells like dry leaves as I shake Cosmo seeds from their stalks.
They're shaped like fingernails and they stick in my sweater.
When I'm finished I go and stand over my rock driveway.
It could use some color and I shake and brush my body,
Seeds falling to the ground.
Sometimes we are so busy cleaning up the mess of summer we forget to plant seeds in the fall.
It's not just the decaying leaves that need to make an offering to the earth.
Perhaps this is why there are tens of thousands of Cosmo seeds on the ground.
Only a few will get nurtured,
Enveloped in the loving embrace of dirt.
I'm trying to learn from these seeds.
I swirl my ambitions into a prestigious garden but when I look around all I see are thousands of doubts.
Perhaps my dog will carry one of these Cosmo seeds in her coat and it will fall onto new ground growing a flower for somebody else.
Most of these seeds will float on concrete roads never finding a soft place to land.
Can a human be a keystone species?
On good days I imagine it and the healing garden rises again.
You you you you you you Take a deeper breath.
Prop your right foot on the ground and roll to your left.
Pull your right hand down towards your buttocks and then untwirl your arm and relax on the ground.
Manishavasana.
Feel the sensations riding through your body.
Notice how the sensations reverberate.
Folded wing on your left side.
Prop your left foot on the ground.
Roll to the right.
Flip your left hand behind your back,
The back of your hand to your t-shirt and as you roll your body weight down your palm spreads into the earth.
Notice how this feels.
Is it sustainable for five minutes?
If you have an adjustment to make roll to your right again.
Adjust your hand and then again roll your body weight on top of your hand.
Relax your legs.
Turn your head to the right.
Take a deep breath.

May this practice be of benefit to you and by way of you of benefit especially to this planet and to others.
