This short mindfulness of breathing practice uses creative visualization and natural imagery. It is suitable for both adults and children (from the age of 5). The imagery makes it easier to focus on the abdominal area while balancing the attention to develop greater relaxation, stability, and clarity.

To begin this practice,

Sit or lie still like a mountain.

Your body is a part of the earth,

Supported by the earth,

And deeply relaxed.

Relaxing deeper and deeper with each breath,

Think,

May I and all beings become happy and free.

This is why I meditate.

Then imagine that your belly is empty like a balloon.

Inside,

In the very center of your belly,

Imagine a big beautiful flower,

Any flower that you want of any color.

This flower is fresh,

Serene,

And brings joy.

When you breathe in and your belly expands,

Imagine this flower fully opening its petals.

When you breathe out and your belly contracts,

Imagine the flower closing its petals slightly.

Don't control the breath.

Just watch the flower and your belly and enjoy.

Watch the flower open its petals and close its petals a little bit.

If you feel a bit tired,

Notice how fresh the flower is.

If you feel a bit too excited,

Notice how serene and peaceful the flower looks,

How serene it feels.

Watch this flower inside your belly.

Watch it breathe with your breathing.

Breathe naturally and watch for one more minute.

Pausing conclude the practice,

Remind yourself that this flower is always going to be with you,

Easily available when you need to calm down by watching your breath.

And think through this practice,

May I and all beings become happy and free.

This concludes the meditation.
