Oh Well, Here Goes Something
Hi, this is my first non-clutter-busting post since I quit that job. It's me seeing what's next. Something is always next. You never know what it is until it happens. You can guess, but no one is any good at that.
Transcript
Hi,
This is Brooks and I'm talking to you from my office.
It's so nice to have you over here.
Or I imagine that you're over here while I'm talking with you.
This talk doesn't have a name.
It's officially me talking and that's about it.
That's the only thing I can tell you for sure.
And it's nice to sit here.
It's really nice.
I like to look around the room.
I have a bunch of my artwork on the walls so my artwork feels like mirrors.
Like I'm looking into mirrors and seeing a different face that I'm usually used to.
But that's what I like about art is that it's I get to see different aspects of myself.
You know it doesn't matter how it comes out but there's no good or bad art.
It's just art.
It's creativity and it's like when it rains.
You know there's no like good or bad rain.
It's just rain.
Anyway I feel at home here and that's what I'm talking with you because I always like to talk when I'm feeling comfortable.
Normally I'm not that comfortable around other people.
I am kind of shy and it weirdly focused so it's not always natural for me to be able to talk with people.
I'm fascinated by people but I'm kind of more even as I talk about it it's hard to talk about so I think you get the gist.
But it's nice to to be here.
It's always nice to be alive.
That's one of the best things regardless of what's happening.
It's nice to be alive.
You know something about that you know that feeling that I can't even put it into words.
That sense of aliveness like I'm alive.
It feels really good.
It feels like alive electricity and feels like a friend.
Kind of like my best friend in a way.
In a big way.
So this is all experimental.
You know how I'm talking with you now.
Usually I was talking about clutter.
How to get rid of clutter.
These are the ten ways to get rid of clutter.
Although I don't think I've read a list of ten things but I had lots of suggestions from years of on-the-job experience.
But then recently I quit being a clutter buster and what a relief.
I'm still loving that feeling of letting that go.
I have no regrets about being a clutter buster but after 22 years it was so good to let it go.
And I don't have any plans as far as what's next.
Like some people ask me what are you gonna do next.
I guess like whatever happens next is what I'll do next.
The next thing I do.
Right now the next thing is talking with you on this recording.
So I like to keep these things really natural.
You know like I don't want to try to sell you on some idea of how to be.
You know I definitely don't want to tell you to be different than you are.
There's something really great about how you are.
You know there's no nothing more uncomfortable in my experience than trying to do something that's not my nature.
That's been my experience.
So I definitely don't want to suggest things to do or you should start doing this or you should stop doing this because that totally disrespects you and nobody but you knows what suits you best.
What's your nature.
So there'll be none of that talk.
You got to do this talk.
Here's how to be more spiritual.
That's always a good one.
How to be more patient.
That would be good for me because I'm impatient by nature but I've always been impatient so I guess that's that's how I'm made.
And excuse me I have a little bit allergies so I'm clearing my throat here and there.
I think I'm almost out of stuff to talk about and thank you for joining me in this experiment of being in the moment because you could say if you had to give it a name but then that sounds kind of um new agey be in the moment you know but then the well what I've always felt about that is as long as you're alive you're in the moment you know whether you know it or not you're at the moment you don't need to know you're in the moment if you're alive so so we won't call it in the moment maybe we just won't give it a name so thank you thanks for joining me it's good to be here with you and I wish you the best take care bye

I really enjoyed this little talk and hearing your perspectives. The part about not telling people what to do was so refreshing, as I have recently been caught in that trap of "I need to do/be/say XYZ to be good enough." Thank you. I love your peaceful attitude and playfulness!

Brooks, appreciate the talk, more like a conversation, about letting go, being in the present at a time of transition, and accepting... rather, welcoming change from the anticipatory space of the yet unformed. All said and done with a light touch. Happy travels on this next phase of the journey. Loved the baloons! NamastΓ©.

Great to hear your talk this morning. Iβm crazy grateful that I ~~was a part of your many Live talks on clutter here on Insight, as you truly inspired me to tackle Huge projects that are now coming to an end. β I Even listened to your book at times when I was in stuck moments and you pulled me through. π It has allowed me this beautiful freedom & peace in my life to reopen a part of me I had put aside. Exploring my artistic talents. Not having this weight I had so heavily on me physically and mentally feels amazing by the way. I can breathe differently. Thankful for the calm insight Brooks you bring to this life, and happy to see you are giving your self the you moments for whatever is next!
