Letting Go and Aliveness Meditation
In this meditation I help you let go of what's no longer serving you so that you can reconnect to your essential self.
Transcript
Hi,
It's Brooks Palmer and I would like to talk with you about letting go of clutter in your life.
Clutter is anything in your life that's no longer serving you and it could be people,
Things,
Activities,
Ways of seeing the world.
So what I'd like to do with you right now is to take a,
To do a little clutter bust and so just take a deep breath,
Let it out.
It feels nice to be able to breathe.
It's amazing that's all set up for us.
Feels good to breathe.
And that breath gives us life.
It's like a toaster being plugged into the wall,
You know.
Our breath is,
Generates the,
That feeling of aliveness in us,
That feeling of life.
Our breath is our best friend.
As we feel that breath move through our entire body and our heart and our mind,
Our lungs and our skin and our blood,
We feel that vibrating sense of what it means to be alive,
That current.
And the first thing to know is that's our most valuable asset,
That feeling of aliveness.
Without that we can't experience anything and with that we can experience everything.
So it helps to recognize that and by recognizing that we honor it.
And when we honor it,
It takes care of us.
So with that feeling of aliveness and being taken care of,
I want you to open your eyes and look around your room.
Just with a curiosity,
You know,
Like hmm,
Wonder what,
Wonder what I've surrounded myself with,
Wonder what things are in my environment.
And curiosity is a great tool because it,
It allows you to,
To notice things.
You become aware.
Like hmm,
Look at that.
You know that,
Um,
That box that I have over there,
What's inside of it?
I haven't,
I haven't looked at it in a while or,
You know,
That,
Um,
That piece of furniture over there,
I've never really liked sitting in it.
Or maybe you look over and you see a plant and you go,
I really like that plant.
But you know,
I think it needs to get watered.
Or you look out the window and you notice the sun.
It's like,
Wow,
I'm so glad the sun's out there,
You know.
I never have to ask the sun to be out there.
It's pretty good that it's there.
Or maybe you,
Um,
Notice what you're wearing and it feels uncomfortable.
You know,
This doesn't fit right.
It never has.
Or it's kind of worn down.
I think I need a new,
Whatever,
A shirt or a pair of pants.
So just looking around and just noticing is,
Is basically the gist of decluttering.
It's a very kind way of looking because you're considering yourself first as you look around the room.
Like what feels good?
What doesn't feel good?
As if someone gave you a plate of food and you took a bite and you go,
Do I want to keep eating this or not?
And so I want you to just have this in the background of your day as you go forward and notice.
You know,
You don't have to consciously think about it,
But you'll be out and about and you'll be at work or you'll be at home or in some particular room or doing some activity.
You'll just,
All of a sudden you'll notice,
Hmm,
This doesn't feel good.
This interaction with this person doesn't feel good or this activity doesn't.
Or this book that I'm reading isn't,
I'm not really enjoying it or this TV show or this exercise.
You know,
Like I'm exercising and it doesn't,
Doesn't feel like it's right for me.
Or maybe you do notice the things that do matter to you.
Like I'm talking to this person and they really enjoy them being in my life.
Or this work that I do,
This particular task,
I really enjoy.
I mean it really suits me.
Or you listen to a song and you go,
I really love this particular kind of music.
So it's both things like this feels good,
This doesn't feel good.
Just that's the first step.
You don't have to go,
I gotta get rid of this or I gotta honor this.
Just it's the noticing.
And from the noticing you,
You start to,
To,
To make natural decisions.
You know,
I don't think I really want this anymore.
Or I kind of forgot about how valuable this is.
I'm really grateful that it's there.
So I'm excited about your day.
Excited to see what you discover and I wish you the best.

It kind of blends a meditation with a talk. I liked how it explains decluttering.
