Hi,
It's Brooks Palmer and welcome to the letting go meditation.
So find a comfy place to sit or lay down and close your eyes.
Feel the breath come in and go out.
The breath comes in and goes out again.
The breath is a perfect role model for letting go.
The breath spontaneously is taken in by the body and immediately the breath is released.
Something comes in,
Something goes out.
The body doesn't hold on to breath.
It takes the breath and uses it.
It then releases breath.
Just watch the breath come in,
Watch the breath go out.
The body is a wonderful teacher,
Such a simplicity to its process.
You know we can learn from the best.
The great thing is our body is right there with us,
We can watch it and learn.
We can do the same thing with our lives,
The things in our lives.
You know we bring things into our life because we feel like,
Oh this is going to make a difference,
This is going to help.
Sometimes it does,
Sometimes it never does.
This watching the breath come in and out can be an inspiration to us to release what's no longer part of our lives.
In the same way we let go of a breath when we breathe out.
It's very stressful on us to hold on to things that no longer serve us.
It's harder on our lives,
It's harder on our well-being.
My experience from working with a lot of clients is that they always feel relief when they let go of what's no longer serving them.
And relief is one of the best feelings in the world because it's the opposite of pain.
When you feel relief it's because the pain dropped off.
So in the same way you notice that the breath comes in and then goes out again.
Notice the relief in breathing out.
This can give you confidence.
You can start to feel like I can do this,
You know.
I can look around at what's in my life and let go of things that don't serve me anymore.
If my breath can do it,
I can do it.
And essentially it's really beginning,
It's starting,
It's the starting the letting go.
It can seem hard when we're not doing it but once you start it's like the breath.
There's something simple about it.
Breathing and removing.
Noticing and letting go.
So you can start to come out of the meditation.
Move your body around a little bit.
Taking a deep breath,
Stretch.
And you'll take with you that,
This experience of the breath coming and going,
This deeper understanding of how great it is to feel that relief in the same way it feels to breathe out.
And I encourage you to start taking a look around at your life and seeing,
You know,
What doesn't fit me anymore.
What feels heavy.
What feels like it doesn't fit my life.
Experiment by starting to let go.
Just like we're experiencing with our bodies today.
And I wish you the best.
Take care.
