Allow this meditation to be an invitation to get curious about what you might still be holding on to.
We'll spend some time listening to the resistance rather than trying to hurry past it.
So let's begin.
Find a comfortable position where your body can feel supported.
Allow your hands to rest softly.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And a long,
Gentle breath out.
Allow yourself.
To be here now.
Imagine yourself walking along a familiar trail.
Notice the air against your skin and the light filtering through the trees.
As you walk.
You notice signs of change all around you.
Leaves in varying shades of green,
Yellow.
And brown.
Dry grasses and wildflowers along the trail.
The landscape is familiar.
And yet,
It is changing.
You can feel that you are in a time.
Of transition.
Not quite where you were.
Not yet where you are going.
And for now.
.
.
There is no need to hurry toward either one.
Continue walking until you come.
To a creek.
The water moves over rocks and fallen branches.
Creating a gentle bubbling sound as it continues downstream.
Take a moment to pause and breathe.
Notice the movement of the creek.
There are times when water rushes forward.
And times when it barely seems to move at all.
Yet both are part of the same water.
Perhaps there is a place in your own life that feels a little like this right now.
A transition you know is happening.
A change you can feel approaching.
An ending you haven't completely accepted.
You simply recognize the feeling of holding on.
As you continue along this creek.
You come to an old tree growing near the water.
Her trunk is wide and weathered.
Her bark holds deep grooves from years of wind,
Snow,
Heat,
And rain.
You imagine sitting against her trunk or resting along one of her thick roots.
As you settle here.
You become aware of tension you didn't realize you were carrying.
And you begin to relax.
Where does resistance live in your body?
Maybe there is a tightness,
Restlessness,
Or a heaviness.
An urge to move away from whatever you are feeling.
Or perhaps your body feels quiet.
Let this experience be your own,
Without judgment.
Sitting beneath this old tree.
Notice her roots.
Some are anchored in the earth.
Others meet the flowing creek.
Rootedness and movement.
Existing together.
A reminder that we can be rooted and still allow life to move through us.
You don't have to know exactly where the movement is taking you.
You can love what has been.
And still know that life is changing.
You can resist an ending.
While also feeling curious about what may come next.
There is room for it all.
Now bring your awareness back to the place within you that feels resistant.
Instead of asking yourself to let go.
See what happens when you ask.
What am I holding onto,
Really?
Notice what rises naturally without searching too hard for an answer.
Maybe it is a memory,
A feeling.
Person.
And expectation.
Or a season of your life comes to mind.
Allow it to be here with you.
You're simply acknowledging that you're still holding on to it.
Now ask yourself.
What am I afraid might happen?
If I let go.
Notice where that question takes you.
Maybe beneath the resistance is fear.
Or sadness.
Anger.
Or uncertainty.
Or maybe even love.
Maybe you're holding on because part of you isn't ready.
For what may come next.
And that is worth listening to.
Take a deep breath in.
And a deep breath out.
Resistance isn't always an obstacle standing between us and where we need to go.
Sometimes,
Resistance asks us to stay with ourselves a little longer.
To feel what we haven't felt yet.
To acknowledge what truly matters to us.
To recognize why it may be difficult to loosen our hold.
You might place one hand wherever you feel the resistance most in your body.
And rather than asking it to leave.
Can you simply breathe with it?
You don't need to overcome your resistance.
For now.
Listening is enough.
Take another breath here beside the water.
And notice whether anything within you feels different than it did when you arrived.
Maybe there has been a release.
Or a slight softening.
And if nothing has changed.
Give yourself grace and patience for the journey before you.
Return your awareness once more to the old tree beside you.
Roots embedded in the earth.
Water flowing beneath them.
Change and stability.
Holding and releasing.
Both belong here.
As you do.
Perhaps the changing seasons of our lives are inviting us to approach letting go a little differently.
We don't need to make a list of everything we should release or force ourselves to be ready for change.
Our practice can simply be to notice where we are resisting.
And stay there long enough to listen.
When we stop fighting our resistance.
We begin to understand what lives underneath it.
And with that understanding can come acceptance.
With acceptance.
Can come trust.
And eventually.
.
.
When the time is right.
Our grip may begin to loosen naturally.
And we let go.
Before we leave this sacred place.
I'll offer you one final question to take with you.
What might release naturally if I stopped trying so hard to let go?
Allow that question to travel with you as you move through your own season of change.
And as always,
Thanks for watching!
Blessings on your healing journey.
