Hi,
I'm Beth Kurland,
And I just wanted to share with you today a very short practice that you can bring into the moments of your day.
So it's so easy as we go through our day to notice the negative things,
To hold on to the negative things that happen and to miss these small little positive moments that are right here in front of us.
As neuropsychologist Rick Hansen says,
Our brains are like Velcro for the negative experiences and Teflon for the positive ones.
The negative ones stick right to us and the positive ones can easily slip away.
Part of our evolutionary inheritance of our survival brain.
And so the tool that I like to think about is.
The magnifying glass.
And how can we imagine carrying this magnifying glass with us into our day to magnify these little positive moments that we might otherwise easily miss.
I had one of those moments today.
I was going out for a walk and it was just this beautiful day.
Sky was complete blue,
Not a cloud in the sky and full sun.
And just.
Close my eyes for 20 seconds,
30 seconds to really take in this amazing warmth of the sun that I don't often,
At least not often enough,
Really truly appreciate and feel and just take that as an opportunity to just savor,
You know,
This little moment in my day.
And so I want to just invite you now to pause wherever you are.
And to take a moment to savor,
To take in something good,
Something positive in your day.
So.
To just call to mind a moment.
Today,
It could just be having a warm dwelling.
That you're residing in now.
It could be a moment of sipping a good cup of coffee or tea.
It could be a loving glance from a family member or a friend.
Or just a moment of gratitude for taking this time for yourself.
Whatever it is,
Large or small.
And sometimes those small moments are really nice ones to dial into.
I'm inviting you to bring your eyes to a soft focus or close your eyes if you're comfortable.
And begin to just notice the surface that you're resting upon.
Feeling your body connected.
With the service that's supporting you.
Take a moment to feel your feet on the ground.
Feel the solid ground beneath you.
And then calling to mind this moment.
In your day in your life,
Just a moment.
To take in something good that's right here.
Right now.
So bringing that to mind,
Whatever it is that you're choosing to focus on.
And really dropping into your body to feel a felt sense.
Whatever positive emotions this may evoke in you.
Whether it's a feeling of gratitude.
Appreciation.
Warmth in your heart.
A feeling of love or care.
Or appreciation for someone or something.
Just a moment to.
Savor.
Being alive right now.
And letting that.
.
.
Sink in.
Taking that feeling into your body.
As if it could spread from head to toe.
Maybe even surrounding you.
Feeling the positivity.
Of whatever you're calling up.
Absorbing into your body like a.
.
.
Plant soaking in nourishment.
And knowing that just pausing for a very short bit of time in your day.
30 seconds or a minute.
To take in.
A positive experience to magnify something.
A simple moment in your life.
Can help to shift how you show up for the next moments in your day.
Taking a deeper breath or two.
As if you can gather up the positivity that's here.
Feel that energy expanding in your heart.
And then when you're ready,
Can open your eyes.
And go forward into your day.
Holding on to a little piece of this positivity that you just tapped into.
I wish you a wonderful day.
Take care.
