When your thoughts threaten to ruin your relationships, say, “Hey, I’m struggling.” The worse you feel, the kinder you need to be to yourself. You can choose which thoughts you pick up. Even though you can’t see all the details, even though you don't know what direction they might take you in, trust that there are many more narratives in your future. This is not the end of your story. Another chapter is already on its way.

Welcome to a hit of hope.

When things get tough,

Be kind to yourself.

When things get challenging,

Name what is going right in your life.

When life keeps telling you no,

Look for the yes.

Any yes,

Big or small.

Yes,

You can breathe.

Yes,

You can rest.

Yes,

You can smile.

Or yes,

You can endure.

When your thoughts threaten to take over your heart and mind,

Remind yourself that it's okay.

You are doing the best you can.

When your thoughts threaten to ruin your relationships,

Say,

Hey,

I'm struggling.

When the darkness threatens,

Say,

It sucks pretty bad,

But this is the path I'm on right now.

When you are tempted to pull out the clobber narrative and start berating yourself and beating yourself up,

Think,

Is this how I would talk to a friend who is going through something like this?

The worse you feel,

The kinder you need to be to yourself.

You can choose which thoughts you pick up,

Which thoughts you feed.

Even though you can't see all the details,

Even though you don't know what direction they might take you in,

Trust that there are many more narratives in your future.

This is not the end of your story.

Another chapter is already on its way.

Wow! What resonated with me was when you asked, "Would you treat a friend like that"? Some days I beat myself self so bad that I can "see all my bruises”. This is another amazing meditation that really puts things in perspective for me. I know how many people love me, but some days I feel like I’m not worthy of their love. In order to prove that thought wrong is to look at my Facebook friends and realize I have so many previous students who wanted me as a friend bc they say that I was so kind and understanding when they were in my classroom and were sure I would be kind again if they needed someone. I don’t always remember that I am lovable, but all I need to do is look at the lovely messages they send me. I am SO lucky for all the love I have in my life!🩷💕

“The worse you feel, the kinder you need to be to yourself.” As our/my tendency can be the exact opposite, such guidance feels deep, and so powerful in practice. This compassionate meditation touches on a whole lot, in just a few minutes! 🙏🏽

Again, I thank you. The chapters of these last couple of years have really kinda sucked, but when I really look close, they have all held beautiful gems as well. Tiny ones sometimes, to be sure, but beautiful nonetheless. It is these gems that will form the heart of me when this part of the saga draws to a close, and they will power me through the next stronger and wiser for the [shitty] experience.
