Welcome to a hit of hope.

It isn't surprising we want it done now.

We don't have to wait days or even weeks for something to arrive anymore.

We can one-click and get it the very next day.

We don't have to plant the seeds,

Water the seeds,

Weed the garden,

And wait for food to be in season.

We can drive to the grocery store and have strawberries whenever we want.

We don't have to cut down the logs,

Fit them one on top of another,

And build an entire cabin with our own bare hands.

We watch TV shows where an entire house is torn apart and rebuilt in a week.

But when our lives get torn apart by whatever it is,

It takes time to rebuild.

And it takes even more time if we want to rebuild things right.

First,

We have to do the work to tear away our outer shells.

We have to be willing to be bare so we can see all of the damage.

And oh my,

Isn't it tempting just to slap some nice new outer shell on as quickly as possible?

But the rot,

The things eating us from the inside out,

All of that is still there.

And if we just cover it up,

It will grow,

Spread,

Making things weaker and more vulnerable to life's storms.

Okay,

Fine.

The damage is there.

Let's hack away at the rotten parts,

Right?

But that can cause more damage and harm.

So,

Can we look at what is?

Can we see the parts that need our attention?

Can we get to work with intention and finesse?

And piece by piece,

Remove the damaged parts.

And let's not blame the damaged parts.

They are already broken.

We simply say,

This needs to be replaced so I can be whole.

And speaking of whole,

If we work to remove the damage,

There will be holes.

And we might want to shove them full of whatever junk is at hand.

But can we take the time to fill them with the best materials?

Can we rebuild with care?

And rebuilding with care means it is going to take time.

It is going to take skill.

It's going to take the support of friends and family.

And it means showing up at the worksite every single day,

Rain or shine,

And doing the work.

Board by board,

Nail by nail.

Until one day what stands before you is strong,

Stable,

And beautiful.

A space you can't wait to get home to.

Namaste.

Thank you for this. So true. For me, if she's willing to try again, I need to be willing to get a little uncomfortable, and do the work. In my case willing to move to where she lives and start over.

love your comparisons of what we have so quickly today and what it was like years before. (board and nail and brick for home and seed and soil and water for food) I try to be patient😉

After 3 years as caregiver for my wife, 2 1/2 of them with no outside job at all, I returned to work this week. What I did not realize is how very much life had changed me in that time. I find I can no longer do the work I once did; it sucks my soul dry and magnifies my grief a hundredfold. Life must feed the spirit, not destroy it. I am not who I was and I cannot pretend to be. I must rebuild. I MUST do the work and write the book and serve in the manner I feel so strongly called to. I must face the fears that strangle me and have always held me back. Life is not either/or, rather it is unlimited choice and opportunity. If only I am willing to do the work. Again, you distill the precise guidance I need into three incredibly perceptive and intense minutes. You have my deep gratitude once more.

Wow that was inspiring. I listen to it twice! I usually listen to longer guided meditations, but I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon this. You are a very wise woman, thank you for sharing your insight. 💜🔥

Life...happened. Right now all I can do is wait and see if things get better. I want to fix everything right now, but I understand that trying to do that has only made things worse. I might listen to this meditation on repeat all day.

Such a great message - explores how rebuilding takes time, intention, restraint, creativity.

Bookmarked and downloaded this one. To continue the rebuilding metaphor, this hit me like a ton of bricks. I am in the process of some carefully planned personal inner demolition and have begun repairs and restoration to certain things that have come to light during this process. Recently I had the thought that if I keep doing this repair-work in pieces, I may end up with a new foundation, but it will be in individual sections rather than a single, unified, strong base if I continue to "fix" as I go until eating to see the extent of the work to be done. (Rather like replacing only one tire at a time on a car - not the best idea, but it can certainly be done.) Listening to this talk helped me view the situation from a slightly different angle and with an illuminating look at the urge to "fill the hole" which I had not consciously recognized before. Thank you for sharing this with us here. I will be listening to this one again to be sure. I see the light in you. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻
