Hey there.
Welcome to a hit of hope.
And fair warning,
This one is salty.
So if that isn't for you,
You might find something else.
If you are still here and if this is your first time listening to one of my meditations,
I welcome you.
If you've listened to me for a while now,
I thank you.
I thank you for all your support and comments because they have brought me all kinds of light and joy.
Something else,
If you've listened to me for a while now,
You might have noticed that I used to post a ton of these meditations.
I sometimes wrote two or three a day and recorded them as quickly as I could.
And if you've listened to me for a while now,
You might have noticed that I rarely record meditations anymore.
A month might even go by.
Now I could tell you this is because of where I live,
That it's hard to find quiet in my closet where I record these because of my neighbors next door.
And so I've had to start waiting until I can use the sound booth at work,
Which is kind of a pain.
So that's why I don't record as often as I'd like.
And yes,
That is true.
But that's not being honest.
I've quit posting so much because I'm afraid.
I'm afraid this will be the meditation that no one likes.
This will be the meditation that shows me to be a poser,
One who says these things that might sound real and wise,
But whose real life can really feel like a shitshow.
My fear is that you all won't like me anymore.
And it's important to say I've felt this for a really long time,
Like a year or two.
And yet,
Even though that's true,
Sometimes I can find the courage to tell those voices inside to go fuck themselves.
And I am so very glad when I do.
Because apparently you all are finding life as hard as I am.
And I really didn't want to record this meditation,
Write this meditation,
Post it,
Because I didn't want to seem like I was asking for sympathy or some outpouring of support.
Because that feels even ickier than worrying you might not like me.
But I decided I needed to write this.
I needed to post it.
Because these voices,
These fears we all have inside,
They can be so damn pernicious.
And they can stop us from doing the good.
I don't think I'm alone in living with these monsters.
And maybe you,
Like me,
Are tired of letting them squeeze the life out of you.
I want to bring the good.
And this is good,
This space where we are right now.
It's a space where we can arrive,
Whoever and however we are.
And that's what it's all about.
Being in this space where we can sit and breathe and be enough.
So fuck those voices that tell us to be afraid of who we are.
That tell us to keep the real to ourselves.
Because what will others think?
Instead,
Let's say yes to using our voices to name the real,
The strange,
The awkward,
And even the ugly.
Bring this stuff to light.
Seriously,
Drag it into the light.
Because then these fears,
These voices,
These monsters,
They lose their power.
We can see how ridiculous they are.
And we can celebrate how brave we are to live these lives in these times.
Be real and strange,
Awkward and brave.
And as ever,
Thank you.
Seriously,
Thank you.
Now get out there and live light and shine.
