This exercise is called First Just Breathe.

This practice was designed to be an in-the-moment mindfulness intervention that can reboot your mind in as little as six seconds.

I call it my guide to slightly less regret in my life.

This is a mnemonic device.

The first letter of each word corresponds with the same letter of the practice.

First Just Breathe.

Fist,

Jaw,

Breath.

The F in first matches the F in fist.

Relax your fist.

Release the tension in your hands.

The J in just matches the J in jaw.

Relax the jaw.

Release the tension.

Place the tongue on the roof of your mouth.

Create some space between your back molars.

Feel the tension release.

The B in breathe matches the B in breath.

Focus your attention on your breath.

Feel the cool air rise in through your nose.

Feel your belly rise and fall.

When your mind drifts,

Which it will,

Just return your attention back to your breath,

Relaxing more deeply with each breath.

It's as easy as one,

Two,

Three.

One,

First relax your fists.

Two,

Just relax your jaw.

Three,

Breathe.

Focus attention on nothing but our breath.

We all have said or done something we've regretted that could have been avoided.

Next time when you feel yourself stressed,

Stop and first fist,

Just jaw,

Breathe,

Breath.

First just breathe.

Do this exercise as often as you can throughout your day.

The more you do it,

The easier it becomes and the faster it works to calm your mind.

The more you do it,

The easier it becomes and the faster it works to calm your mind and bring your thinking brain back online.

You and everyone around you will be glad you did.
