Welcome to this guided meditation.
Before we begin,
I want you to consider relating to your body with more curiosity and compassion.
And appreciation.
Rather than judgment based on appearance.
Our bodies change through injury and illness and aging and life experiences,
Which can often bring challenges,
Maybe grief or loss.
Even as we change.
Our bodies continue to adapt and heal and learn and support us every single day.
This practice is not about ignoring difficulties,
Reinforcing gratitude,
It's about balancing acceptance and appreciation.
As you move through this meditation,
Notice how your body protects you,
How it nourishes you,
How it moves and allows you to experience life.
Maybe you can see your body as a lifelong companion and even cultivate respect and compassion and gratitude for all it has carried you through.
Find a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
Allow your eyes to close gently if that feels comfortable for you.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And a long gentle breath out.
Again,
Breathing in relaxation.
Exhaling tension.
Let your breath rise and fall naturally and allow yourself to arrive fully in this moment.
There's nowhere to go,
Nothing to achieve,
Nothing to fix or to solve.
Just this opportunity to spend a few moments with your body that's carried you through your entire life.
Allow yourself to settle into the present moment with curiosity and love.
Bring awareness to your feet.
Notice any sensations that are present.
Without judging or trying to change anything.
Just simply notice.
These feet have supported you for years.
They have carried you through ordinary days and important moments.
They have helped you move towards people you love,
Places you've explored,
And experiences that have shaped your life.
Whether they feel strong or tired or comfortable or uncomfortable today,
They continue supporting you in the best way they can.
See if you can silently offer your feet a simple thank you.
Bring your attention to your calves,
Your knees,
Your thighs.
Notice any sensations here.
Your legs have helped you stand and walk,
Climb and bend and dance,
Lay,
Exercise,
Work,
And move through the world.
Maybe they don't function exactly as they once did.
Maybe there are limitations or injuries or changes that have happened over time.
And yet they continue to serve you.
Take a moment to appreciate all the places that your legs have carried you and all the experiences that they have made possible for you.
Bring awareness to your hips and your pelvis.
This area of your body provides you with stability and support and movement.
Many of us hold tension here.
Many of us carry emotional experiences here as well.
Rather than judging any discomfort,
Just simply acknowledge what is present.
Notice the strength and resilience of this part of your body.
The way it continues supporting you day after day and offer kindness to this area of your body.
Bring awareness to your belly.
Notice the gentle rise and fall of your breath.
This part of the body is often the target of criticism and judgment.
Today,
Allow yourself to see it differently.
Beneath your awareness,
Your digestive system is working continuously to nourish you and transform food into energy.
Your body is constantly working to sustain life.
Rather than evaluating this area based on appearance or comparing to others,
Appreciate its function,
Its dedication,
Its quiet ongoing service to your life.
Allow your belly to soften.
Allow appreciation to replace criticism if only for this moment.
Bring awareness to your chest and notice your breathing.
Notice your heart.
Your heart has been working faithfully since before you were born.
Through every celebration,
Every disappointment,
Every season of growth.
Every moment of grief,
Every moment of love,
Without asking for any recognition,
It just continues beating.
Take a moment to appreciate this remarkable rhythm of life within you.
Bring awareness to your shoulders and notice what you feel here.
Many of us carry responsibilities in our shoulders.
The weight of expectations and the care of family or friends the demands of life.
Your shoulders help you lift and reach and carry and create and embrace and care for others.
Rather than asking them to be different,
Acknowledge all they have carried.
Maybe offer them a moment of gratitude for their efforts.
Bring awareness to your arms,
Your wrists,
Your hands.
Consider everything your hands make possible.
They prepare meals,
Offer comfort.
Hold your loved ones.
Create art.
Write messages,
Open doors,
Express affection.
They allow you to interact with the world around you.
Take a moment to appreciate all that your hands and wrists and arms have done for you throughout your life.
Bring awareness to your neck and your throat.
Notice any sensations here.
This area supports your head and allows you to communicate with others.
Through your voice you've shared ideas,
Spoken your truth,
Expressed love and thoughts,
Asked for help,
Laughed,
Cried,
Connected with people throughout your life.
Offer gratitude for your ability to communicate and be heard.
Bring awareness to your eyes.
Without changing anything,
Just simply notice them.
Your eyes have witnessed countless moments,
Sunsets and storms,
Faces of loved ones,
Books,
Nature,
Beauty,
Everyday life.
Even if your vision has changed over time,
Your eyes continue helping you engage with the world.
Offer them appreciation for all they have shown you.
Bring awareness to your ears.
They allow you to hear music and laughter,
Conversations,
Birdsong,
And the voices of people you care about.
They connect you to the world around you.
Take a moment to appreciate this gift of listening and connection even if there have been changes over the course of time.
Bring awareness to your entire face.
Notice your jaw,
Your cheeks,
Your lips,
Your forehead,
Your eyes.
Your face tells the story of your life.
It expresses emotion.
It smiles and laughs and cries,
Shows compassion,
Reflects wisdom gained through your experience.
Rather than evaluating and analyzing and judging its appearance,
Appreciate your face's ability to communicate your humanity.
Now allow your awareness to expand to your entire body,
Your whole body,
Not separate parts,
But one interconnected system.
Your body has carried you from your first breath to this very moment.
Your body may have scars,
Limitations,
Changes over time through experiences or age,
Loss,
Aches,
Memories.
Your body has adapted again and again throughout your life.
It may not be perfect.
But perfection has never been its purpose.
Its purpose has been to support you,
To carry you,
To help you experience life.
Take this moment to appreciate your body for all that it does for you.
And meet your body with love and kindness.
Honor its strengths and its struggles.
Accepting the changes that life may bring.
Find a space in your heart to cultivate gratitude for this lifelong companion.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in.
And a long gentle breath out.
Allow yourself to rest in the appreciation and connection with your body.
Not because your body is perfect or because every challenge has disappeared.
But because your body has shown up for you every single day of your life.
When you're ready,
Gently bring your awareness back to the space around you.
Moving your fingers and your toes and slowly opening your eyes.
I hope you can carry this sense of appreciation and respect and compassion for your body,
Your relationship with yourself into the rest of your day.
