Hi again,
I'm Angela and today we're going to be doing a procrastination detox.
I decided to focus on this one because I hear so many times people talking to me about their goals and ideas of what they want to do in their life to improve and a lot of times I don't see action.
Remove all distractions for the moment to not reward yourself with anything until you've earned it.
I want you to catch yourself and start having integrity.
Integrity is all about accountability.
If you were to imagine that someone was videotaping you throughout your day,
The entire day,
Just like on a reality show,
If someone's watching you the whole time,
You're going to be more aware of every single move that you're making and not just talk about your plans.
And right now I want you to apply a lot of that.
Let's try it out.
Set up your space,
Your physical environment,
Remove any distractions,
Set your timer on your phone and we're going to start off with one minute.
Let's do that for today.
So starting off with one minute and having your focus in mind.
If you cannot do anything,
Then all you're going to do is sit there for that one minute and you're just going to let your fingers move across the keyboard.
Even if it's gibberish,
Even if it makes no sense at all,
You're just typing.
Even if it's words of,
I don't know what to type.
Okay.
So setting your timer now and I'm going to go ahead and do that with you.
We're going to set our timers together for the one minute and ready.
Here we go.
One minute starts now.
If you're distracted,
Keep going.
Just stay in that seat.
Keep typing.
Keep focused.
Very good.
Continue.
Keep going.
Very good.
Keep going.
Ten more seconds.
So how did you do?
If you got some words down,
That's awesome.
If you stayed in your seat,
That's an accomplishment because that is just starting to shift out of that pattern of the distracted cycle.
Notice if you get caught up in that perfectionism.
And if you are in that perfectionism,
Remember that it leads to a paralysis of doing nothing and not getting anything accomplished.
And months and years can go by and we miss deadlines and we get down on ourselves for not accomplishing these things that we're wanting to finish.
Start noticing what got in the way or what pulled your attention.
And oftentimes it's the same triggers that are going to pull our attention.
So it's our job to set boundaries around that.
Maybe setting up your workspace so that you don't have access to those distractions.
Being in a more proactive place when it comes to your focused work time.
I really recommend picking a certain time every single day,
If you can,
Where you are doing this exercise and expanding it every day.
Maybe the next day will be five minutes or 30 minutes or a chunk of a 45 minutes,
An hour.
I really recommend just doing it in chunks so that you have that highly focused attention space.
It's more quality in that pressured time versus this open time of saying,
Oh,
I'm going to sit here for three hours and dedicate it to writing or studying or working on this project that I've been meaning to do.
Instead,
You have this very high quality,
High focused time where you're going to finally finish and do the work in that moment or inch your way closer to it.
And it may seem unnecessary to start off with something that's going to be about a minute long,
But just remember that that one minute is probably something where you're going to accomplish more than you have in months prior to this.
So this is a technique that you can use and go to.
You can press play whenever you need to be in the space of a reminder or you just need that push to start and then you go on your own.
So pick a time that works for you and let's see how you do and let me know.
All right,
Thanks guys.
