Remedies for the soul series number two,
The healing power of boundaries.
Hello everyone,
Welcome to the second Remedies for the Soul series.
Today we are talking about something sacred,
Necessary,
And deeply misunderstood.
Our boundaries.
Not the rigid,
Defensive kind that isolate us.
But the soulful,
Compassionate boundaries that protect our peace,
Our energy,
Our emotional well-being,
And our truth.
Hi,
I'm Ana Barreto.
And today,
I invite you to look at the physical,
Emotional,
And spiritual space you use in your life.
What are boundaries?
A boundary is not a punishment.
A boundary is clarity.
It tells the world who we are,
What we value,
And how we choose to show up.
Women have been conditioned for centuries to be agreeable,
Helpful,
Pleasing,
Adaptable,
And endlessly available.
We have learned to confuse niceness with kindness and self-abandonment with love.
But understanding,
Creating,
And enforcing boundaries are the way we reset the space we use to protect ourselves.
They are not selfish.
They are self-respect.
When you honor your boundaries,
You teach others how to honor you.
When you ignore your boundaries,
You unintentionally teach the world that honoring you is optional.
So today,
We will explore six insights that can transform the way you protect your inner peace,
One intentional moment at a time.
Please get a pen and paper.
Silence your electronics,
And take notes.
When you write things down,
It helps you integrate new truths.
And boundaries are not ideas to memorize.
Today,
You will learn why they are practices we must embody.
Are you ready to begin?
Then take a deep and slow breath.
Take another deep breath and soften your shoulders.
Take one more breath,
And when you release it,
Let this time be about you.
You deserve it.
Number 1.
Boundaries protect your peace.
Let's begin with the first and most important insight.
No thank you is a complete sentence.
When you say,
No,
Thank you.
You don't need to add any other information after it.
It does not mean you are rejecting someone.
It means you are protecting your peace,
Your time,
Your emotional bandwidth,
And your sacred energy.
The word no is not a weapon.
It is a truth teller.
It is the space you build between you and what depletes you.
Sometimes it is a soft whisper.
Sometimes it is a line between you and emotional exhaustion.
You don't owe people unlimited access to you.
You don't owe them your best energy on demand.
You don't even owe them a reason.
A boundary is a moment when you pause and remember.
I matter.
My peace matters.
My emotional safety matters.
Many women were not taught this as children.
We were raised to be helpful no matter the cost,
Agreeable even when exhausted,
Polite even when uncomfortable,
Loyal even when it caused harm,
And sometimes even praised for self-sacrifice,
As if martyrdom were a virtue.
Our mothers and grandmothers didn't sit us down in the kitchen to explain boundaries.
There were no bedtime stories about emotional self-protection.
We learn by osmosis.
Quietly watching what they endured,
Absorbed,
And tolerated.
But today,
We unlearn the old implications of the word no.
It is not a negative word.
It is not selfish.
It is self-respect.
When you say no with grace,
You are not disappointing others.
You are honoring yourself.
Practice it gently by saying it aloud.
No thank you.
No thank you.
No thank you.
And that is enough.
Number 2 Say yes when you are inspired,
Not accustomed.
Many of our yeses are not inspired choices.
They are automatic habits.
We say yes because we don't want to hurt someone's feelings.
We don't want to seem rude.
We want to be liked.
We want to avoid conflict.
We don't want to feel guilty,
Or we assume we are responsible for holding everyone else together.
But every yes that comes from fear,
Guilt,
Obligation,
Or people-pleasing becomes a quiet form of self-betrayal.
A true yes expands your heart,
Energizes your body and feels aligned.
A forced yes feels tight in the chest,
Heavy in the stomach,
Or draining in your spirit.
Your body always knows the truth before the mind does.
Do you remember the last time you felt a pressure on your heart?
Perhaps you feel a sharp pain in your gut.
Or it's closing your throat.
When was the last time you said yes when you wanted to say no?
So from now on,
Say yes,
When you are inspired,
Not when you are accustomed to.
Yes,
When inspired.
Okay.
Now,
And when a yes feels misaligned,
Pause,
Just pause.
You can count to nine in your head to validate your feelings.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven,
Eight,
Nine.
This is enough time for you to interrupt what you are accustomed to saying or doing.
Every time you make a commitment and later resent it.
Your body tells you that you ignored a boundary either because you don't know your boundaries or they are a bit loose.
If you need more time to build the courage to say no,
Take it.
My husband used to say no all the time for simple things.
One day,
I brought it to his attention and he said it's easier to go from no to yes than from yes to no.
Number three.
Misaligned yeses create resentment and exhaustion.
At one time or another,
We've all said yes when we wanted to say no.
We've all made commitments we later regretted.
We've all rearranged our lives to accommodate someone else's expectations while abandoning our own.
Today,
I want to tell you that misaligned yeses are very,
Very expensive.
They cost us clarity.
Energy.
Emotional availability.
Peace.
And sometimes our self-esteem.
And the resentment we later feel as a messenger.
Resentment is not anger.
It is self-betrayal trying to get your attention.
It whispers.
You overextended again.
You dishonored your truth again.
You gave more than you had to give again.
Instead of judging the resentment,
Listen to it.
I'm not saying the feeling of resentment is okay.
Resentment is an emotional invoice for a boundary that was not honored.
Should you pay or ignore it?
We need to pay.
We pay it with our attention.
If you ignore it,
You will have a collector knocking on your door many years later.
But there is good news.
You are always allowed and able to reset.
Do you have a boundary that you need to reset?
Number four.
You can reset your agreements with grace.
Many people believe that once they say yes,
They are permanently locked into the commitment.
Even if it no longer works,
Even if it drains them,
Even if their intuition is screaming no.
But here is a radical truth.
You are allowed to change your mind with grace.
Yes,
You are allowed to change.
If something no longer feels aligned,
You can gently reset.
You can say.
.
.
I'm realizing that I overcommitted and need to step back.
That doesn't work for me anymore.
I need to make a different choice to honor my well-being.
Thank you for understanding.
You do not need to over-explain.
Your emotional safety does not require a legal argument.
Boundaries are not about being convincing.
They are about being clear.
Here is a boundary hack.
Repeat what you said three times.
Repeat the exact same sentence,
Not one or two times.
Do it three times so people can really hear you.
For example.
I want to step down from my position.
Let them say whatever.
Then repeat it again.
I want to step down from my position.
One more time.
Thank you for understanding.
I want to step down from my position.
Let clarity be enough.
Number 5.
Say no without apologizing.
Here is a powerful and simple approach.
You already learned that no is a complete sentence.
No,
Thank you.
Not at this time.
That doesn't work for me anymore.
I can't do that.
Short Kind.
Grounded.
Do not use.
I'm sorry,
Or I apologize.
It's not rude.
No need to justify,
Defend,
Negotiate,
Apologize,
Or soften your truth to make someone else feel more comfortable.
Overexplaining is often a trauma response,
Not a communication skill.
You are not obligated to abandon your peace in order to preserve someone else's expectations.
Boundaries are emotional adulthood in action.
If you want to soften your approach,
Start by saying what you have enjoyed.
And appreciate it before you reset a boundary.
Number 6.
Every no creates a space for a deeper yes.
This is the most beautiful truth about boundaries.
Every time you say no to something misaligned,
You say yes to something deeper,
Truer,
Wiser.
Every no protects your time,
Your health,
Your rest,
Your creativity,
Your relationships,
Your purpose.
Boundaries are not restrictions.
They are invitations.
They create space for the work that matters.
Love that nourishes.
Friendships that elevate you.
Routines that protect your peace.
Self-care that regulates your nervous system.
From this time on,
I invite you to see boundaries as doors.
There are many doors you will open,
Go through,
Or close in your life.
They will be your favorite or detested colors,
Wood or glass,
Short or tall,
And an infinite number of door types.
You will know you are honoring your boundaries when you choose which doors are worth walking through with your whole heart.
The deeper wisdom about boundaries.
Boundaries are not punishments.
They are clarity.
Boundaries are not selfish.
They are sacred.
Boundaries are not about controlling others.
They're about taking responsibility for your energy.
Boundaries will be respected when you honor them yourself.
Boundaries remind us that I belonged to myself before I belonged to anything else.
When your nervous system feels safe,
Your communication softens.
When your energy is protected,
Your relationships improve.
When your peace is honored,
Your intuition becomes clearer.
When your time is guarded,
Your purpose flourishes.
So,
I can say that boundaries are a type of spiritual medicine.
They are emotional hygiene.
They are mental alignment.
They are a form of self-care.
So today I invite you to practice boundaries with intention.
If you feel you struggle with setting boundaries,
Begin by setting reminders on your phone throughout the week.
Use sentences such as.
Noah's sacred.
My peace matters.
I am allowed to reset.
I can say no with grace.
One mindful boundary can restore hours of emotional energy.
One graceful no can restore your healthy sense of self.
One inspired yes can transform the way you show up in life.
Boundaries are not barriers.
They are frameworks for healthy love.
Thank you for being here today.
Thank you for choosing Clarity and protecting your energy.
