The Willow Tree Meditation Hi,

This is Ana Barreto.

I'm the author of the book Women,

Rice and Beans.

Ten Wisdoms of a Brazilian Mother for Daily,

Easy Flow and Conscious Living.

This meditation is in Chapter 2.

The Willow Tree Meditation will help you release the emotional clutter and open your energy to also let go of physical objects and situations in your life that no longer serve you.

Find a comfortable place where you won't be interrupted for at least 10 to 15 minutes.

Sit comfortably with your back straight if possible.

Take a long,

Deep,

Slow breath and close your eyes to minimize distractions.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Connect with the space by feeling the chair,

The fabric against your skin and the air around you.

Any noise you hear will take you deeper into the meditation.

Now,

Imagine or visualize a beautiful willow tree in the heat of the summer.

The tree is full,

Gorgeous,

Green and large,

Standing in a stunning field.

Breathe the air in the field and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.

Look at the beautiful,

Droopy leaves of the tree.

The wind blows them so they swing gracefully.

Watch the birds flying by and caressing the leaves of the branch of the willow.

Now,

Think of your career and any issues you are having at work.

Perhaps you don't have enough work or you are unhappy with your job.

Maybe you are having problems with your boss or a co-worker or you are unemployed.

Imagine that you pick up the problem and hang it on one of the branches of the willow tree.

The problem take any physical form it wants or it may not take a physical form at all.

Just hang it on the tree.

Next,

Think of your friends.

Bring to mind any issues you are having with them.

Perhaps someone is angry with you or you are angry at someone for not meeting your expectations.

Maybe you have a friend who is bringing too much drama in your life.

Perhaps your friend isn't there as much as you would like.

Place this problem on one of the other willow tree branches.

Now,

Think of your children or any children in your life.

If you don't have children,

Perhaps your babies are your pets or your book,

Your music or anyone in your life who is behaving like a child.

It might even be someone who is ill and can't help it.

That's okay.

Whatever the problem is,

Imagine hanging it on a branch of the willow tree.

Now,

Think of your romantic relationship if you have one.

What issues are you having with your partner?

Perhaps you are thinking of ending the relationship or you are concerned about your partner's lack of commitment.

Maybe it is you who can't commit.

Maybe you are having fights or suffering from lack of communication.

Maybe you are sad because you want a relationship but don't have one.

Take whatever problem you are having and hang it on one of the branches of the strong willow.

Now,

Think of any situation in your life in which you feel you aren't being recognized for your contribution.

Perhaps your boss,

Maid or children aren't giving you the consideration you desire.

In your imagination,

Hang these feelings on the branch of the willow tree.

Next,

Think of any financial issue in your life.

Perhaps you are stressed by the high rent or mortgage payments.

Maybe you don't have enough money to pay your child's college tuition or your medical bill.

It may be the fear of balancing your checking account or consolidating your credit card debt.

Maybe you simply aren't making as much money as you would like.

Whatever issue you are having with money,

Just hang them on the willow tree.

The next area has to do with your family.

Perhaps you are taking care of an elderly parent or there is disagreement amongst your siblings about an inheritance or how to take care of a parent.

Maybe you are fighting with your mother or father.

Whatever issue,

Hang it on the branch of the willow.

Now,

Think about your spirituality and education.

Look at all the shoulds you and others are imposing on yourself.

Think of the pressures of going to college or stress you have if you are taking classes.

Maybe the problem is overcommitment in your church or spiritual organization.

Or you want to have a spiritual practice but just can't find the time.

Again,

Whatever the situation,

Hang it on the willow tree.

Lastly,

Think about your health.

Do you feel overweight?

Are you dealing with diabetes or high blood pressure?

Perhaps you are avoiding a mammogram or your migraines are out of control again.

Maybe you have been diagnosed with cancer.

Hang all of these issues on the branches of the willow.

Now,

In your mind's eyes,

Step about 20 feet back from the willow tree and look at all of the issues hanging on the branches.

Notice how the wind blows the leaves and your problems as they hang on the branches.

Allow some of the problems to be lifted by the wind and carried away.

Wave them goodbye as they float out of sight.

Make a mental note of which issues were taken away.

Walk underneath the branches and imagine that you can actually walk into the trunk of the tree.

Feel the effortless weight of the branches and the wind blowing at your leaves.

Feel the strength of your tree and your connection to Earth.

See people walking or driving by and admiring the tree with all the issues hanging on the branches.

Feel that you,

As the tree,

Are strong and that you can let everything go.

Even as someone of the issues are still hanging on the branches.

Feel the calm,

Flexibility,

And tranquility of the willow,

Letting everything go with each breeze.

Now,

When you're ready,

You can open your eyes and come back to your space.

Take a deep breath,

Rub your palms together,

And be present in your space.

Make sure you note the problems you will really let go.

The next time you see a willow tree,

Feel free to touch it and thank it for the lessons it gave you in letting things go.

Do this meditation as often as you desire.

It will help you with letting things go and feeling confident that you can handle the challenge of your life.

Have faith that great things are coming into your life.

All you have to do is let go.

I planted a weeping willow 20 years ago in my backyard. It was a little twig. Now its a beautiful big tree. I will hang all my issues there as recommended! Thank you for the beautiful meditation.
