Our journey begins by creating a meditation nest.
It doesn't matter if you are sitting or lying down as long as you are comfortable.
It could be snuggled under your favorite blanket on the sofa or in bed,
A soft pillow on the floor,
And maybe even a comfy hammock.
Notice your breath,
How it flows in and out of your nose,
How your body rises and falls with each breath.
As you inhale through your nose,
Count to five.
Suspend your breath to the count of one at the top of your inhale.
Exhale slowly through your mouth to the count of five.
Take a few more breath cycles like this at your own pace,
Inhaling to the count of five,
Holding for the count of one,
Then exhaling to the count of five.
You can continue this breathing pattern for as long or as little as you like.
Your eyes may begin to feel heavy.
Allow them to tenderly close if called to do so.
Imagine a warm,
Gentle light surrounding you,
Creating a sense of tranquility,
Stillness,
Peacefulness.
Peacefulness.
What places invoke these feelings in you?
Maybe a calm beach,
A serene forest,
Looking at the moon in a starlit sky.
Is there a gentle breeze?
Can you hear soothing sounds?
Invite the atmosphere to create a place of peace and restoration,
Allowing each inhale to fill you with relaxation.
Each exhale,
A feeling of release.
Is your body becoming heavier,
More supple,
Sinking into a state of comfort and bliss?
As you drift into a deeper state of relaxation,
Visualize each part of your body filling with your inhale and drifting deeper into the earth beneath you as you exhale.
Your toes,
Feet,
Ankles,
Calves,
Knees,
Thighs,
Hips,
Torso,
Arms,
Your head.
If any thoughts or sensations arise,
Acknowledge them without judgment.
Let your breathing slowly return to its normal rhythm.
Feel the calmness,
The tranquility washing over you.
As the meditation comes to an end,
Take a few more deep breaths.
Start to bring your awareness back to your body.
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Embody the sense of relaxation as you transition into a restful sleep.
Until next time,
May you know rest.
May you know calmness.
May you know deep sleep.
