This is a meditation to help your child find a reliable safe and space calm inside themselves whenever times feel stormy or they are facing challenges. It teaches breath and grounding techniques for regulation while inviting them to think about a real place in their lives where they feel peaceful and happy. Your child will discover the power of using their breath and thoughts, to bring them to a place of feeling calm and centered, whatever might be happening. It reminds them this place inside them is always there for them, to come to any time they need to feel safe and calm. This is a skill that will serve their confidence, inner security, and resilience for life.

Hello you,

Thank you for being here.

So this is going to be a special time where you can find a space inside yourself that feels safe and calm and happy.

How does that sound?

Good,

So let's begin.

So begin to make yourself feel really comfy and cosy and settle into a comfortable position for yourself where you might be sitting on the floor or on a chair or you might be lying down and it's totally up to you.

You do whatever feels good for your body and for you now.

This is your space and it's safe and it belongs to you.

It's like your own special bubble and you're right inside it all protected and cosy and warm.

I know that sometimes there are things going on in our life that can feel really very big and even though those big times can give us really big feelings,

I want you to know that you're okay and these times always pass,

Just like stormy clouds pass through the sky and then the sun comes out again.

And I especially want you to know and remember that even when there's lots happening on the outside,

You're still safe.

And deep down inside,

Just like a boat in a storm,

There's a safe space you can go to where you can put down an anchor,

Where the waters are calm and where you can really feel that peace and safety and calm inside you while the storms are happening elsewhere.

And that's a place you can go into anytime you want and that's where we're going to go to that safe,

Calm space inside you right now.

So now if you like,

Go ahead and close those precious eyes of yours.

And wherever you are sitting or lying,

Feel yourself sending down an anchor into the ground underneath you.

So you're nice and stable and supported.

And you can feel the ground underneath you,

Meeting your body and telling you that you are here,

You're safe and you're anchored.

And then what you can do is take your hands onto your belly.

When you do that,

You can feel yourself breathing.

So you can notice how when you breathe in,

Your belly fills up and your hands go up.

And then when you breathe out,

Your belly flops down and your hands go down too.

Take some breaths like that.

Breathing in,

Your belly fills and grows underneath your hands.

And then as you gently breathe out,

Your belly flops down and your hands go down.

Breathing like this can help you feel calm and safe.

It helps your body feel soft and relaxed.

And you might even begin to feel yourself melting a little more toward the ground.

Like melting into a big hug that the earth is giving you,

Right where you are.

With every slow breath in and then out,

Feeling you're melting even more into that hug of the earth.

And if the earth had a voice,

You'd hear it saying,

You are safe,

You are safe,

You are safe.

And now let me ask you a question.

Do you have a favourite place that you like to be?

A place where you feel peaceful and happy and calm.

A place where you really feel like yourself and you feel comfortable.

Maybe it's an outdoor place,

Like a park or a garden.

It might be by a lake or pond or the sea or in a forest.

Somewhere you've been,

Where you like to be,

Where you just feel wonderful and at home.

A place which puts you into a really good mood.

It could be an indoor place.

It might be your very own bedroom or some other room.

Maybe it's where you are right now.

And what you can do now is think about that special place.

The place which makes you feel welcome and calm and happy.

As if you're visiting it right now.

As if you could put yourself there.

You can see that place.

You're in it and you can feel it.

In that place,

How does the air feel?

And what do you see?

And what kind of sounds can you hear?

Feel yourself in this special place and at the same time as you're feeling that and seeing that,

Feel your hands still warming your belly.

And feel your breath moving there,

In and out.

And it may feel like you're bringing this peaceful,

Happy space right inside your body,

Deep into your belly,

Right into the centre of you.

So it's your space and it's inside you.

And all the feelings that you have in that space of being calm and happy are inside of you.

In this space inside of you.

So that you are feeling calm and happy now.

Breathing in and feeling your belly move under your hands.

Breathing out and feeling your body just melting and relaxing into the earth,

The ground.

With every breath,

You're melting into the feelings of being calm and safe and happy in your calm,

Safe space.

And before we come back,

I want to ask you how you're feeling now.

How are you feeling inside your body?

Inside your body,

Are there any places that feel warm or tingly or as if they're humming?

Can you feel the parts of you that are relaxed and soft?

Can you feel feelings that are peaceful and calm and happy?

Because you've visited your special place and you've brought that special place right inside you.

How clever of you.

What a magical thing to be able to do.

And now you know that anytime you need to,

You can find a quiet spot and put down your anchor and get comfy.

And breathe with your hands on your belly.

And feel the earth give you that special hug as you think about your calm and happy place.

And you're there again with all the feelings and the sounds and the sights.

You can have your own special calm place inside you.

It's there.

It's there all the time for you to come to whenever you want.

So now with a smile,

Take one of those precious hands of yours to your chest where your heart is and keep the other on your belly.

Take a big breath in and as you breathe out,

Say thank you.

Thanking your body and your heart for giving you this time in your own special safe and calm space.

When you're ready,

You can then let your wonderful eyes flutter open again.

And you can wriggle your toes and your fingers.

Maybe you can take a big breath and a big stretch and get ready to enjoy the next moment of your day.

Remembering you are loved.

You are special.

And you are important.

And I'll see you next time.
