Hello,
Insight Timer community.
Alex here.
I hope you are doing well today finding moments of ease and rest and peace of mind as you move through your meditation.
I wanted to share a note to self that I wrote while in the thick of writing my book After the Rain.
And I don't know who needs this.
But hopefully these words can settle into your heart and lead the way to kinder,
More compassionate and gentle nudges to healing.
Before we begin our time together,
I would love it if you can get in a comfortable seat or if you're not interested in laying still,
That is fine.
You can have me playing in your ears as you wash the dishes or lay down or carry on about your day.
Whatever feels right and good for you in this moment,
Lean in and explore.
Let's take a deep breath in together before I start reading this letter to self.
Inhale for three.
And exhale for three.
Whether you are laying still with your eyes closed or walking around mindfully and getting things done with this playing in the background,
I want you to remember that you are your own home and that you are deserving and worthy of love even through our greatest challenges.
Let's begin.
Dear self,
You are so much more than your pain.
I know it may feel hard to heal from the things that have broken you down or threatened your joy,
But I hope you trust yourself enough to piece yourself back together when you're ready.
You are whole,
Even when you feel like your peace is missing.
My prayer is that your heart becomes full again and that you forgive yourself for whatever you did or didn't do,
For whatever you knew or didn't know.
May you make yourself a home of sacred belonging.
You are a force.
You have walked through many storms.
You've been knocked down countless times and you're still here,
Growing through it.
Give yourself permission to rest and wilt.
You will bloom again.
I love you.
I'd like you to sit with those words.
I'd like you to replay this note to self,
Letter to self as often as you need to.
I'd like you to write it down in your journal and reflect on it.
I'd like you to pick it apart and see what serves you and what maybe doesn't.
I think something important to hold space for is to know that we're going to have rainy seasons in life,
No matter what.
And it's how we choose to move through our storms and our rainy seasons that teach us something about grief,
About loss,
About healing,
And about joy.
Give yourself permission to find emotional rest.
You don't have to always figure out your pain.
Sometimes you just need to greet it,
Acknowledge it,
And move through it.
Thank you all for being here.
I hope this message carries in your heart in a way that feels supportive.
Take good care.
