Hey friends,

Today we're going to look at swaying or rocking as a grounding technique to regulate the nervous system.

Our nervous system can get a little out of whack.

Sometimes we may feel anxious,

Stressed,

Or overwhelmed and that's when swaying or rocking can help.

These simple movements can help bring our nervous system back into balance,

Calming our mind and body in the process.

Now you may be wondering how swaying or rocking actually works to regulate the nervous system.

Well it all comes down to the way our bodies respond to rhythmic movement.

When we sway or rock back and forth,

It triggers a response in our brain that helps to calm our nervous system.

Think about it.

Have you ever noticed how soothing it can be to rock in a rocking chair or sway gently from side to side?

That's because these movements mimic the comfort and sensation we felt when we were rocked as babies.

It's like our bodies are reminding us of a time when we felt safe and cared for.

Not only that,

But swaying or rocking can also help us focus our attention inward,

Away from external stressors.

By focusing on the general rhythm of our movements,

We can tune out the distractions around us.

So how can you start swaying or rocking to help ground yourself and feel that sense of calm?

It's simple.

You can do it while standing,

Sitting,

Or even lying down.

Let's practice it together for a few minutes.

Just find a comfortable position Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out.

Now start gently swaying or rocking back and forth.

You can do this for just a few minutes at a time,

Or for longer periods if you prefer.

The key is to listen to your body and do what feels right for you.

Pay attention to how your body responds to the movement and notice any changes in your mood or energy levels.

Incorporate slow deep breaths as you move back and forth,

Allowing the breath to deepen with each sway or rock.

Pay attention to the feeling of your body moving,

Contact with the ground,

And the rhythm of the movement.

Notice where you feel the movement,

The weight of your body,

And the contact with the ground.

Engage your senses.

Notice all the details of something you can see around you.

Notice the feeling of what you are sitting or lying on or the ground beneath you.

Can you hear something in the distance?

What about something near?

Are there any distinct smells or perhaps the air is stale?

Are there any tastes in your mouth?

Enjoy the rhythmic sway of your body a little longer.

We will slowly come to an end,

But you are welcome to do it longer.

See you soon my friend!
