Welcome back.

My name is Samantha Linden,

Also known as the Blissful Soul.

This is Day 3 of our series,

Happy Hormones,

A 30-day gut reset for women.

If you haven't started from Day 1 yet,

I highly recommend doing so to maximize your success and understanding.

One common question I often hear is,

Does this break my fast?

The simple answer,

Which most people usually don't like,

Is that I don't know.

We are all individuals,

And to succeed,

We must take control and investigate.

This is why having a blood sugar monitor can be so helpful to your success.

Water is the only thing I can confidently say will not break a fast.

For many people,

Black coffee and tea won't either.

However,

For some,

It will.

So what you want to do is test it.

Before I have my coffee,

I test my blood sugar.

If it says 85 mg per deciliter at 9am,

I will test it again at 9.

30am.

If it is 95 or lower,

I can safely say it hasn't given a big enough spike to break my fast.

It should not rise more than 10 mg per deciliter or mg per deciliter 30 minutes later.

Don't get discouraged if it has.

You are learning,

And you'll know for next time.

You don't need to do this every day if you know it hasn't broken your fast.

However,

I still test occasionally,

As our bodies constantly repair and change,

So they may respond differently.

Here are some other commonly asked questions in my responses.

Diet soda will raise your blood sugar.

Sparkling or lemon water should be tested,

But it might be okay.

Collagen,

Which people like to put in their coffee,

Usually breaks your fast.

Creamers with sweeteners should not be used,

But you could try clean fats such as ghee or MCT.

Anything besides water can sometimes be seen as what some people refer to as a hack or a dirty fast.

If in doubt,

Always use water.

However,

Especially if you are new,

Many people like to use what's referred to as bulletproof coffee or tea in the morning.

This involves adding a teaspoon of MCT oil and a tablespoon of ghee or butter to their coffee or tea.

Froth this mixture and test it with your glucose monitor 30 minutes later to see if there was a rise.

This can be used as a hack to help you adjust to fasting and extend it longer.

Tomorrow we will talk more about the hormone estrogen during these first 10 days,

So you don't want to miss out.

Continue to do a 13-hour fast for tomorrow and monitor your blood sugar glucose test in the morning.

See you then.
