Hi there,
My name is Kumari Skye.
I'm the relaxationist and I offer yin yoga on Insight Timer.
Yin yoga is a yoga asana practice that uses long,
Slow holds.
Two.
Target the connective tissues in the body.
So your fascia,
Your tendons,
Your ligaments,
Your bones,
Your joints,
It differs from other types of yoga practices in the way that it is floor based.
And it's mostly going to target everything from the navel down.
This is where the bigger muscles and joints of your body R.
But it can be done for the upper body as well.
So usually the poses are going to be held for three to five minutes.
You'll also use props in yin yoga.
So if you have some yoga blocks,
A yoga bolster,
Some blankets that can be folded so they make a nice flat,
Not puffy surface are also really helpful.
You can do yin yoga without any props.
And the idea is to hold the pose.
For that amount of time and to feel sensation.
And relax the muscles.
Yes,
The muscles are getting a really deep stretch,
But when we're still,
And we're holding for that amount of time,
This is where the connective tissues of the body get stimulated and they don't really stretch.
When we stimulate the connective tissue.
A whole cascade of beneficial things happen in our bodies.
Not only is that part of yin yoga,
But there's also an energetic aspect of yin yoga.
The practice itself is deeply relaxing and regulating to the nervous system.
But we are stimulating the lines of energy in our body.
Called the meridians or in yogic philosophy the nadi.
There's yet another layer of benefit within yoga,
And it's the mental and emotional layer.
As I mentioned,
This is such a relaxing practice.
But we can also practice what it means to be present.
To be mindful.
In Aryan yoga practice.
I hope that this helps you understand what yin yoga is even more.
And I look forward to sharing the practice with you here on Insight Timer through my live events and through my videos.
