If you're here.
You might have a sense that something has been held.
Or this may simply be an invitation to find out.
The body is often carrying something,
Whether or not we've quite noticed it yet.
There may be places that have been quietly working even without your awareness.
And that's exactly what we're here to explore.
Maybe you've noticed tension in the forehead,
The jaw,
The chest,
Or somewhere deeper,
The belly,
The shoulders.
The places you didn't realize were gripped until now.
Or maybe you haven't noticed anything yet.
And that's OK too.
Take a moment to find a position that feels reasonably comfortable.
Sitting or lying down.
Let the body become a little more supported.
And if it feels okay,
You might allow the eyes to close or simply soften the gaze.
In this practice there will be moments where you're invited to bring your hands or fingertips to different parts of the face and body.
And if actual touch doesn't feel right.
You can always imagine it instead.
Visualizing the contact.
The warmth.
The gentleness of it.
As always,
You can skip anything that doesn't feel right today.
As you settle.
See if the shoulders might drop a little farther away from the ears just a little.
Many of us carry a surprising amount of effort in the upper body without ever quite noticing it's there.
Bracing is something the nervous system learns to do often as protection.
Often without asking permission.
We're not here to fight it.
We're just going to gently notice.
Make a little contact.
And then let attention move on.
Just glancing.
Not lingering.
We'll start with the forehead.
Bring gentle awareness there now.
Is there any effort here?
A tightening across the brow.
A subtle drawing together.
You don't need to change anything yet.
Just noticing.
See if the muscles across the forehead might spread slightly almost widening.
And if it feels supportive.
You might bring your fingertips lightly to the forehead.
Just resting there for a moment.
Or simply imagine that warmth.
Fingertips settling gently.
Without needing to move at all.
Than if you like a very slow glide outward toward the temples.
Real or imagined.
The effect can be surprisingly similar.
Like water moving across smooth stone.
Slow.
Barely any pressure.
And now letting attention move on.
Will move to the jaw.
Bring gentle awareness there now.
Is the jaw held.
Or resting.
Just noticing.
See if the muscles along the jaw the sides of the face.
Just in front of the ears might soften even slightly.
Not forcing a release,
Just allowing a little less effort.
And if it feels supportive.
You might bring your fingertips to the jaw.
And try a light tapping there.
Very gentle.
A quiet drumming.
Barely any weight behind it.
Like light rain on still water.
Just a nut.
To be filmed.
Or if you prefer.
Simply imagine that sensation.
Fingertips barely grazing the skin.
Let the fingertips rest or lower the hands.
Sometimes the body responds to being noticed without needing to be told what to do.
Now let attention travel down.
To the collarbones.
You might bring one hand.
Or both to rest along the collarbones.
Fingertips lightly tracing their length.
Or simply letting the hand settle there.
Whatever feels natural,
One side or both.
As always,
It is an invitation.
This is a place that quietly accumulates a great deal.
You might notice something here.
A sense of gathering or holding.
Or simply a density that's been there a while.
Whatever you find is okay.
Let the touch stay light.
Just the warmth of the hands.
The simple fact of contact.
And see if the space just beneath the collarbone.
Might have a little more room.
Not pushing for it,
Just allowing if there's space to allow.
You might notice the shoulders responding.
Easing back or down.
The collarbones and shoulders speak to each other quietly.
And now letting attention move on.
Glancing.
Not lingering.
Bring awareness now to the chest.
The sternum,
The space between the ribs,
The front of the body.
Is there holding here?
A bracing.
A drawing in.
Just taking note of what's here right now.
If it feels supportive.
You might bring one hand to rest at the upper chest.
Let it settle there.
Warm.
Still.
Feeling the breath move beneath the hand.
And if it feels natural.
Just the fingertips.
Trailing slowly downward along the sternum.
Just one.
Slow.
Easy.
Like something long held.
Being gently smooth.
And now.
Gently checking in with the chest.
Has anything shifted?
Even slightly.
Perhaps the sensation has changed.
Move.
Soften a little.
Perhaps it's about the same.
Whatever you notice is okay.
This is how it works.
Not forcing,
Just noticing.
And sometimes noticing is enough.
Now bring awareness to the belly.
The abdomen often braces quietly,
Especially when stress or pain has been present.
You might notice a holding here.
Or a guardedness.
And you might let your hand rest there for a moment if that feels OK.
Just the weight of the hand.
The warmth.
Or simply imagine that settling.
A hand resting gently.
Without needing to move.
And again,
Letting attention move on.
Glancing,
Not lingering.
You might also bring a quiet awareness to the pelvic floor.
If that feels okay.
As always,
It is an invitation.
Nothing more.
Just noticing whether there's any holding.
And whether there's any softening available there.
Even the noticing is enough.
And now something a little different.
If it feels okay.
You might let the shoulders rise ever so slightly toward the ears.
And then release downward.
Or the belly.
Gently drawing in.
And then softening.
Or simply imagining a gentle lifting.
And letting go.
Sometimes we don't realize how much we've been holding.
Until we add just a little more.
And then set it down.
Letting the body settle a little further than before.
You might now bring a wider awareness to the whole body.
Forehead,
Jaw,
Shoulders,
Collarbones,
Chest,
Belly,
Pelvic floor.
A gentle sweep.
Like first light moving across the room.
Noticing what's still here and what might have shifted.
And if the breath wants to deepen slightly.
You can let that happen.
Just allowing a little more space if space is available.
Before we finish one more time.
Let the forehead widen.
Let the jaw be easy.
Let the shoulders rest.
Let the chest and the collarbone soften.
Let the belly be still.
And the pelvic floor easing.
Just an invitation,
Nothing more.
And whatever effort is still here,
That's okay too.
Some of what you've offered here will continue quietly in its own way.
And as you move into your day.
Or the next day.
You might find yourself pausing.
Just briefly.
Noticing whether the shoulders have crept upward.
Or whether the jaw has quietly returned to holding.
And if there's any softening available there.
Allowing that.
Gently in that moment.
Take one breath in.
And a long breath out.
And when you feel ready.
Slowly allowing the eyes to open or lifting the gaze.
Returning to the space around you.
A little more open than when you arrived.
