Good evening.
I'm so glad you're here.
The day is behind you now.
Whatever it brought,
The good,
The difficult,
The ordinary moments in between,
Is done.
And this time,
Right here,
Is yours.
This is a moment to close the day with the same care and intention you deserve to open it with.
A chance to set it down,
Gently,
Completely and let yourself rest.
So find a comfortable position,
You might be sitting or already lying down.
Whatever feels right for this time of evening.
Let your hands rest softly,
Your shoulders drop and your jaw unclench.
And when you're ready,
Gently close your eyes.
We're going to take five breaths together to close the day.
No longer choosing what to carry,
But deciding what to set down.
Each breath asks something simple of you.
Just breathe in,
Hold,
And then let go slowly.
So the first breath is for arriving here,
Breathing slowly.
Hold gently.
And exhale fully.
Feel yourself arrive in this evening moment.
The day is no longer happening.
You are here,
In this body,
In this quiet,
In this space that is safe and yours.
You made it through another day.
That matters.
The second breath is for acknowledging the day,
So breathe in.
And hold.
And exhale slowly.
Let the day pass briefly through your awareness,
Not to analyse or judge it,
Just to acknowledge it.
It happened.
You were in it.
Some of it went well,
Some of it perhaps didn't.
All of it was real and all of it is now complete.
The third breath is for releasing what didn't go well.
Breathe in.
And as you hold,
Bring to mind something from today that you're still carrying.
A moment of tension,
A conversation that didn't go as you hoped.
Something you wish you'd done differently.
Just one thing,
And hold it there for a moment.
Not to dwell,
But to acknowledge.
And as you exhale,
Let it go.
Not because it didn't matter,
But because carrying it into the night won't change it.
You can return to it tomorrow with fresh eyes if you need to,
But for now,
Breathe it out.
The fourth breath is for one small good thing.
Breathe in,
And as you hold,
Let one small moment of goodness from today come to mind.
It doesn't need to be significant,
A moment of warmth,
Something that made you smile,
A task completed,
A kindness given or received,
Even simply this,
You here taking care of yourself.
Just hold it gently,
And as you exhale,
Let it spread through you.
Let it be evidence that today had something worth carrying forward.
And the fifth breath is for letting go completely.
This one is the most important.
Breathing slowly and deeply,
Hold still.
And now exhale everything,
The whole day,
The decisions,
The effort,
The worry,
The noise,
All of it.
You don't need to hold the day any longer.
It is done and you,
Exactly as you are right now,
Are enough.
Now let your breathing return to its natural rhythm,
There's no need to control it any further,
Just let it move in and out,
Soft and easy.
With each exhale feel your body growing heavier,
Your shoulders sinking,
Your hands softening,
The muscles of your face letting go of whatever expression they have been holding all day.
Bring your awareness to the surface beneath you,
The chair,
The bed,
Whatever it is holding your way right now.
Feel it supporting you completely,
You don't have to hold yourself up any longer,
You can let go of that too.
Now silently say this to yourself and let it settle.
I did enough today.
I am enough.
Now I rest.
Say it once more and this time really let it land.
I did enough today.
I am enough.
Now.
I rest.
Now very gently bring your awareness to the quiet around you.
The softness of the evening,
The stillness of this space.
Notice the natural weight of your body,
Completely supported,
Completely at rest.
Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest,
Steady,
Unhurried,
Exactly as it should be.
Let the sounds around you,
Near or distant,
Become part of the quiet rather than a disturbance to it.
You are safe.
The day is done.
There is nothing left to do or solve or carry.
Take one last breath in.
.
.
.
Hold.
And exhale slowly and completely.
Let your eyes stay closed,
Let your body stay exactly where it is.
And welcome back.
The day is done and you met it,
As all any of us can do.
Whatever tomorrow brings you don't need to think about it now.
Tonight is for rest,
For stillness,
For letting yourself simply be rather than do.
You have closed today with kindness.
That is a life lived well,
One day at a time,
One breath at a time.
Sleep well.
Good night.
