My name is Amy and welcome to this social media wind down session.
If you are part of the 70% of the global population that uses social media every day,
Then you probably need a break.
It is easily understandable why we overuse it.
It is designed that way.
So what can be helpful is to work on feeling comfortable doing absolutely nothing for a change.
Let your mind lead the way.
Fast.
After a lot of phone or computer use,
We must.
.
.
Calm your nervous system.
And the most effective way to do this is to breathe.
It is so simple,
Yet incredibly effective at telling your body and your mind that you are safe.
So we're going to breathe in for six and out for eight.
And you should count with me.
Let's go.
Breathing in two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
And out for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
7,
8.
Again in for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
And out for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
7,
8 You can close your eyes if that helps and let's do it again for in 2 3 4 5 6 and out 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Really expand your ribcage now.
Let's go in.
2,
3,
4,
5,
6 and out 2,
3,
4,
5,
6.
7.
You're doing great.
Let's go in for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6.
And out for 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 And last time now,
Breathing right down into your stomach in 2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
7,
8.
And out 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Now just let your breath be normal.
Whatever is comfortable for you.
Meditation is not meant to completely silence your mind.
But using social media is.
When you fill every single gap in your day with a short video or an electronic hit of dopamine,
Your brain stops thinking spontaneously.
It no longer needs to think creatively when you're bored.
It takes no time for gratitude,
Completely unaware of your loved ones in the room who may be watching you watching something.
How can you check in with self?
If you are never alone.
Is that what you're afraid of?
Keeping your eyes closed now.
Just.
Relax your body further.
And notice how this moment of silence feels for you.
It's okay if this feels.
.
.
A little uncomfortable.
Now that your mind has space to think.
What is it bringing up for you?
Just observe any thoughts or worries.
That appear.
Now thanking your mind for those thoughts.
I'd like you to let them go.
And bring your focus to the sound of rain.
Imagine that you are standing in the rain.
You can feel the droplets hitting your face.
Your hands.
Traveling down your body and dropping off onto the ground below.
The ground that is shimmering with water.
Ask yourself now.
How am I today?
Ask yourself.
What do I need more of in my life?
What do I want to let go of?
Moments like this one are safe.
And what a joy it is.
To simply relax.
Listen.
So rather than filling your time with mindlessness.
Perhaps you could be mindful.
And create new wonderful moments.
In your life.
Put down the phone.
And give your kids or loved ones an extra squeeze.
Listen to their stories.
And look into their eyes.
Noticing all of the colors that are delicately scattered.
Across their irises.
Step outside and allow the weather to excite your skin.
Look up into an infinite sky.
Of clouds.
Oh stars.
Remember that your time on earth is limited.
Fleeting.
And that there is more than one way to connect with humanity.
Forego comparisons.
And stand proud.
Feel your desires.
And allow your instinct to lead.
For you.
All free.
Taking one last breath in.
.
.
And out.
Opening your eyes if they are still closed.
And finishing this session with a smile.
It has been my pleasure to guide you today and I wish you great success.
Perspective.
Happiness.
And health.
See you next time.
