Before the afternoon pulls you forward.
There is a moment in the day when the pace starts to change,
Not dramatically,
But enough for the body to feel it.
The afternoon begins to pull,
Things gather,
Time feels a little tighter,
Attention starts moving faster without asking you first,
And often that shift happens quietly,
The breath shortens,
The shoulders prepare,
The mind begins to move slightly ahead of where you are.
If that is happening,
It does not mean you are losing control of the day,
It means the day is gaining momentum,
And without noticing,
The body can try to match that momentum,
To keep up,
To stay ahead,
To avoid falling behind,
But you do not need to enter the second half of the day from tension.
So before that pull fully takes over,
Pause here,
Not for long,
Just enough to interrupt the automatic acceleration.
Let the breath come in,
Without catching up to anything,
And let it leave without pushing forward.
Notice your body again,
The weight,
The contact,
The fact that you are still here,
Not only moving through tasks,
But existing inside them.
You are allowed a different kind of continuation,
Not slower in a way that delays everything,
But steadier in a way that holds you.
Let the shoulders soften,
Just enough to break the forward pull.
Let the jaw release,
Just enough to change the tone of the moment.
This is not stopping the day,
This is entering it again,
With a little more of yourself present.
The afternoon can still move,
Things can still happen,
You can still respond,
Decide,
Continue,
But not from the tightest place.
So take one more breath here,
Before the pace increases,
And let that breath set the tone for how you continue.
