
Quick Anti-Anxiety Tool You Can Do Anywhere

This is a simple tool that you can even teach to kids. It may help to rate your stress before you start and then again right afterwards. You will tangibly see the effect it has on calming your nervous system even if you don't rate it.

Hi,
I'm Lynn Durham and I have a very quick anti-stress tip for you.
Fix for you.
So I can teach you this in the anti-stress fix,

Or you can just,
Here it is,
This is the backup for you.
So you grab something small,
Grab something that's easily passed from hand to hand.
You could use a glasses case,
You could use a pen,
But I prefer something a little bit bigger,
Or you could use your phone.
But because phones have some associations with them,
I like to go with my AirPod case,
Which is Beats,
But you know.
So what you do is you grab it and you take it out to the side and you pass it from hand to hand.
And the reason this works is because most stress is,
When we're feeling stress,
It mostly lands in one side of the brain.
And what we're doing here is we're balancing out the sides of the brain.
So anything that is overstimulated will be balanced out.
So you look directly in front of you as you start passing the item from your left hand to your right hand,
Left hand,
Right hand,
Left hand,
Right hand,
And that's how you do it.
And you can teach this to children.
If there's a child,
You know a child,
Like maybe over five,
Who is maybe anxious about something that's happening at school,
They can do it under the desk.
They don't actually have to know.
Nobody else needs to know what's happening.
Or you can do it while you're on Zoom.
Well,
You can't see someone's hands.
But most often,
You can just do it any time because who cares?
If you have a stressful situation and you're at the dinner table,
You can just say,
Hey,
I just learned this thing from my coach the other day and I want to share it with you.
Who else wants to have a go?
And if you need it,
There's a good chance other people will need it too.
So sharing the love,
We can do that.
So this is a process that you will start noticing.
I just want you to pay attention now.
Are you feeling a little bit lighter?
Are you feeling a little bit less stressed?
Are you feeling like a little bit more blank maybe just whatever switching off the anxiety notice how you Notice how you feel now.
