Lakshmi Kanter

As an embodiment guide and facilitator of transformation, I offer insight and practices for cultivating your relationship with your inner teacher. Key teachings include flowing with life rather than resisting, deepening concentration, refining listening, strengthening discernment and harnessing the energy of change. Deep grief over the loss of my mother brought me to yoga in 1998, and loss has remained one of my greatest teachers. My path taught me to relate to body, emotions, mind and energy with curiosity and kindness rather than critique or intellect. Sally Kempton certified me as an Awakened Heart meditation teacher; Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield trained me as Mindfulness Mentor. Body-Mind Centering’s somatic inquiry permeates my offerings. Jnani Chapman trained me as a yoga therapist specializing in cancer and chronic illness. I completed Sacred Journey: Being Present with Aging, Illness and Dying through IMCW and hold a BA in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard University. I was raised in multifaith household that was a literal marriage between science and devotion. My Sri Lankan Hindu mother was happy in many houses of worship. My father was raised Orthodox Jewish but as an adult found awe in the elegance of mathematics woven throughout our universe. For nine summers, I was immersed in nature and silence at a Quaker hiking canoeing summer camp. Today I consider myself a spiritual ecologist.
