Welcome and thank you for taking this time for yourself tonight.
Wherever you are right now,
Know that you are safe,
You are supported and you can completely let go.
Find a comfortable position lying down,
Allow your body to sink a little deeper into whatever is beneath you,
Your mattress,
Your pillow,
Your blanket.
Let your arms rest gently at your sides or wherever feels most natural,
Palms facing upward if that feels comfortable and when you are ready,
Gently allow your eyes to close.
There is nowhere you need to be tonight,
Nothing you need to do,
No problem to solve.
Tonight,
Your only job is simply to rest.
Let's begin by noticing your breath.
You don't need to change it yet,
Simply become aware of it.
Notice the gentle rise and fall of your chest or your belly,
The cool air as it enters and the soft warmth as it leaves.
Now,
Very gently,
We are going to slow the breath down together,
There is no effort,
Just a soft,
Easy invitation.
Take a slow breath in through your nose,
Letting your belly rise in 2,
3,
4 and now a long,
Slow breath out through your mouth,
Letting everything go,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
Beautiful,
Once more,
Breathing in slowly,
Feeling the lungs gently,
2,
3,
4 and breathing out,
Longer than the breath in,
Releasing any tension in your body,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6.
Let's do this a few more times together,
Each breath taking you deeper and deeper into relaxation.
You can allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm now.
Notice how much slower it feels,
How much softer and easier.
With every breath out from here,
Feel yourself sinking just a little deeper into comfort,
Into stillness,
Into rest.
Now,
I'm going to guide your awareness gently through your body and as we visit each area,
You can simply allow it to soften and let go.
Bring your attention to the top of your head,
Notice if there's any tension sitting there and with your next breath out,
Simply let it dissolve.
Your forehead,
Soften the muscles there,
The space between your eyebrows,
Release any frowning.
Your eyes,
Let them feel heavy and still beneath their lids,
Your cheeks,
Your jaw,
Let your mouth relax,
Slightly open if that feels natural.
Your neck,
The back of your head where it rests against the pillow,
Let the weight of your head be fully supported,
You don't need to hold on.
Bring your awareness down to your shoulders,
This is where so many of us carry the weight of the day,
Allow them to drop,
To melt,
To fall away from your ears.
Feel the relaxation flowing down through your upper arms,
Your elbows,
Your forearms,
All the way down to your wrists and hands.
Let your fingers uncurl softly,
Let them feel heavy and warm,
Completely at rest.
Bring your attention to your chest,
Feel it gently rising and falling with each breath notice how each out breath releases a little more.
Your belly,
Soft and relaxed,
Let go of any holding,
Any tightening,
There is nothing to brace for,
You are safe here.
Feel your back against the bed,
Notice the points of contact,
Your shoulder blades,
Your lower back,
Let the mattress do all the work of holding you,
Any tension across the back,
Let it sink downward,
Into the mattress away from you.
Now,
Your awareness drifts down to your hips,
Let them be heavy,
Let them soften into the bed,
Down through your thighs,
The back of your knees,
Your calves,
Notice how they feel and as you breathe out,
Let them go completely,
All the way down to your feet,
Your heels,
The soles of your feet,
Your toes,
Let any last traces of tension flow out the tips of your toes and disappear.
And now take a moment to feel your whole body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes,
Heavy,
Warm,
Completely relaxed,
With every gentle breathe out,
You are more comfortable,
More deeply at peace than the moment before.
Imagine now,
That with each breath out,
You are drifting,
Slowly and gently down,
Like a leaf floating slowly to the ground,
Soft,
Effortless,
Natural.
The world outside is far away,
There is only this moment,
This moment,
This breath,
This beautiful stillness.
You may notice thoughts drifting through your mind like clouds,
That's perfectly fine,
Simply let them float by,
Without following them,
Without holding on to them.
Returning always to the breath and to the peaceful weight of your body,
You are so relaxed now,
So deeply at ease.
Each breath carries you a little farther from wakefulness and closer to sleep.
There is nothing to do,
Nothing to figure out,
Nothing to worry about,
All is well.
All is handled.
Tonight,
Just simply rest.
Let sleep come to you now,
Naturally and easily.
The way it always does,
When you allow it.
Your body knows exactly what to do,
You don't need to try,
Simply let go.
Drifting,
Softly,
Peacefully,
Safe,
Deeply asleep now,
Resting,
Peaceful.
And home.
