Hello and welcome.
This meditation is designed specifically for you,
The people professional,
The HR leader,
The one who so often serves the emotional first responder for your entire organisation.
Its purpose is to help you continue to do your vital work with empathy and open-heartedness without taking on a heavy emotional weight that can lead to burnout.
Today,
We will create your own compassionate container.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position,
Seated with your spine tall but relaxed,
And your hands resting gently in your lap,
Or laying down if that feels better for you right now.
When you're ready,
Gently close your eyes.
Take a slow,
Deep breath in through your nose,
Feeling your belly and your chest,
And as you exhale,
Release the breath with a soft sigh,
Letting go of the morning,
To-do list,
Emails waiting for you.
Another deep breath in,
Gathering your awareness and bringing it right here,
To this moment,
And a long,
Slow breath out,
Releasing any tension you might be holding in your jaw,
Your shoulders or your hands.
Just allow your body to become a little heavier,
A little softer,
As it settles into stillness.
Now,
Bring your awareness to the space directly in front of your body,
About a foot in front of your chest.
Just become aware of this empty space.
In this space,
We are going to create your compassionate container.
This is a sacred energetic vessel that only you can control.
It is here to help you hold a space for others,
Without being consumed by their struggle.
Begin to imagine a form taking shape in this space.
What does your container look like?
Perhaps it's a beautifully crafted bowl,
Made of warm,
Smooth wood.
Perhaps it's a shimmering,
Crystalline vase,
Radiating a soft,
Protective light.
Perhaps it's a simple,
Strong basket,
Woven from resilient,
Natural fibers.
Trust the first image that comes to mind.
Now,
Notice its shape,
Its size,
Its texture,
Its color.
This container is incredibly strong,
Yet surprisingly light.
It is secure,
It is safe,
It is yours.
At the very top,
There is a gentle,
Open space,
A willingness to listen,
To receive,
To witness.
Become aware of the walls of your container.
Feel their strength,
Their integrity.
This palm tree is your self-preservation.
It is not a wall of indifference,
But a membrane of wisdom.
It allows you to feel for someone,
Without feeling as them.
See your container becoming clearer,
Stronger,
More real in the space before you.
I invite you to bring to mind a recent conversation or interaction at work that was emotionally charged.
Please don't choose the most difficult memory you have.
Just a simple,
Recent instance where you had to listen to someone's frustration,
Anxiety or sadness.
See the memory,
But as you are watching it from a slight distance,
As the other person speaks,
Imagine their words,
Their feelings,
Their heavy energy flowing gently and directly into the opening at the top of your container.
Watch as it all gathers inside,
The frustration,
The fear,
Disappointment.
It is not touching you.
It is being held,
Safely and respectfully within the container.
Notice what happens to the energy inside.
It is not judged.
It is not fixed.
It is simply held,
Honoured without being absorbed.
You are bearing witness to their experience and the container is doing the heavy lifting.
You remain anchored in your own centre.
Your feet are on the floor.
Your breath is steady.
Your own energy field remains clear and calm.
Take a breath.
You are present.
You are empathetic.
And you are protected.
Container that only collects will eventually overflow.
So your container has a beautiful,
Intelligent function of release.
Bring your awareness to the base of your container.
And when you are ready,
Imagine the bottom becoming permeable.
Like a sea.
Watch now as all that heavy,
Processed energy from the interaction begins to drain downwards.
Blowing out of the container and into the air below you.
The Earth can effortlessly accept and compost this energy,
Turning it into natural soil.
It is released from you.
It is released from your space.
See the last of it drain away,
Until your container is once again clear,
Calm and empty.
Ready for the next moment,
Should you need it.
The container gently fades,
But the knowledge of it remains within you.
This tool is now yours to use whenever you need it.
You can visualize it in 30 seconds before you walk into a difficult meeting.
You can activate it during a phone call.
It is always available to you.
Bring your awareness back to your own body now.
Notice how you feel.
Perhaps a little lighter,
A little clearer.
More centered in your own energy.
Take one final deep breath in.
Feeling yourself with a sense of calm,
Capability.
And as you exhale,
Thank yourself for taking this time to replenish your most valuable resource.
When you're ready,
You can begin to bring some gentle movement back to your fingers and toes.
And whenever it feels right,
Slowly and gently open your eyes.
