In this somatic practice,
I'm going to be inviting you to connect to yourself,
To your heart,
To your body.
We're going to be working on one part of the body where you are experiencing tension or stress or some kind of a holding pattern.
To get started,
Just settle into a comfortable position.
If you can,
Feel your feet on the floor.
Next,
Move your awareness to the part of the body where you are experiencing some form of tension or tightness.
Next,
Place your hand on that part of your body.
If you,
For example,
Experience tension in the chest,
Just place the hand on the chest.
If it's in the shoulder,
You can place a hand on your shoulder.
Next,
We're going to acknowledge that tension.
Instead of trying to make it go away,
I invite you to practice accepting it.
You can even speak directly to that tension and let it know,
I accept you as you are.
Notice what starts to happen.
Does it tighten even more?
Does it loosen?
Does it stay the same?
We're not looking for any particular outcome,
So there's no agenda.
If you do have an agenda,
I invite you to let it go and simply let yourself be with the tension to the extent you can.
Obviously,
Don't overwhelm yourself.
From here,
You can explore,
Does that tension have a color?
Does it have a texture?
Is it hard?
Is it more liquidy?
And just continue applying your acceptance and even love to that part of you.
You can even speak to it directly and ask it,
Why are you tensing up?
And you just listen.
You become a witness to that tension,
To yourself.
You become that presence that is needed in order to discover and explore what might be underneath that tension.
So we're not making it bad or wrong.
We are simply listening.
And if you can,
Send a gentle breath to that part of your body.
And as you're staying present with it,
Continue to track with your awareness what is unfolding within your body.
Are there certain thoughts that are bubbling up?
Maybe emotions or feelings that you have been suppressing or tensing against?
Maybe there's a memory,
Past memory,
That is trying to get your attention so that it can get integrated.
There's no wrong answer here.
And if the energy starts to move,
Just allow for it to move.
Let it unfold.
And we'll continue to stay present for one more minute before wrapping up this practice.
And then from here,
I invite you to take a gentle inhalation in through the nose and opening your mouth and exhaling out.
Breathing in.
Letting go.
And one last time.
Breathing in.
And letting go.
And gently bringing this practice to completion.
Feel free to listen to it as often as you need to and stay in touch.
