Welcome to our devotional day two.
Make New Year's Goals.
Make New Year's Goals,
Dig within and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year.
This helps you do your part.
It is an affirmation that you're interested in fully living life in the year to come.
It's a quote from Melody Beattie.
Meditation.
My daughter created a poster board yesterday that displayed images and sayings that encourage her or indicate certain goals she has for herself.
She wrote playful and encouraging teenage sayings like these.
Breathe is just a bad day,
Not a bad life.
Or so far you have survived 100% of your worst days.
You're doing great.
The images she put down on her poster board were of people she admires.
I haven't done that yet,
Though I will probably write down some goals instead of artistically displaying them.
As I formulate goals,
I want to leave room for life to happen when I have made other plans.
I also want to plan and set goals in the awareness that I will do my best to reach them,
But that certain outcomes are not in my hands.
And so I have three concrete goals for this year.
One is to continue eating healthily and exercising.
Two is to sleep more hours every night than I do now.
And to enjoy time with my family each day as my children are growing up quickly.
These seem like minor goals,
But because I need to practice those every day of this year,
They are major goals.
What are your goals for the new year?
Let's be invested and interested in fully living life this year.
The Bible verse that comes with that is from Proverbs chapter 16 verse 3.
It says,
Commit to the Lord whatever you do and God will establish your plans.
I'm saying a prayer.
God of new beginnings,
We commit our new year's goals to you.
If you have other goals for us than those we have for ourselves,
Please make them clear.
Give us joy and strength to pursue the goals we set for ourselves.
May they serve to increase health and love in our lives.
Amen.
