Welcome to a healing adventure through the Amazon.
My name is Beth and I'll be narrating your journey.
Are you ready to place yourself in a movie of the imagination?
Unlike a meditation where the primary intention is to let go and quiet the mind,
This is also an immersive visualization practice inspired by shamanic healing traditions.
All you need to do is relax and listen to the sound of my guiding voice while letting your imagination flow freely beyond constraints of time and space.
Suspend belief and free your spirit.
First,
Let's ground the body.
Bring your attention to any area of the body that feels tight or tense.
As you breathe,
Breathe into those tight places,
Stretching from the inside.
Discover the true capacity of your lungs.
Don't force it,
But be willing to allow it to unfold.
With each breath,
Let go of more and more stress and feel the weight of your body releasing and connecting to gravity.
Drop deeper and deeper into a relaxed but aware state,
Allowing each of your senses to remain vibrant.
Be fully in your body,
Present,
Grounded,
And ready for anything.
Know you are safe.
Nothing you create with your mind can harm you,
And you remain in charge throughout this journey.
If anything feels overwhelming or startling,
You remain free to stop the exercise and return to the ordinary waking state,
Or to change your dream or confront those feelings,
Knowing they are there to test you and help you grow.
Trust yourself.
Now,
Imagine you're looking at your feet.
See them walking.
Our journey has begun.
Look around you.
You are in the deepest,
Darkest jungles of the Amazon.
You hear a howler monkey off in the distance,
So different than anything you've ever heard.
It lets you know you really are far from home.
The howler monkeys could be miles away,
But you feel a twinge of excitement.
As you continue on,
A shimmering green hummingbird hovers and buzzes over a bright red flower and then dives away.
Closer in,
You hear a twittering and rustling in the limbs of the trees towering over you.
You look up and notice a community of woolly monkeys with their soft brown fur.
Seeing you notice them,
They become very playful,
Showing off by swinging right overhead and across your path,
Cheatering amusingly.
The monkeys swing playfully from branch to branch,
Twittering and cheating,
Looking at you with big curious eyes.
The bald face of a yukari monkey appears almost human,
Peering through the lower limbs of a tree ahead of you.
Is he alone?
You get a sense he's sizing you up,
And you're relieved when his attention returns to his bananas and tree vines.
One leaf of which bears a meaty,
Light green praying mantis.
You notice what feels as if your feet have a volition of their own.
They seem to be leading you somewhere,
And you relax and let them take you.
You're free to notice the amazing wildlife all around you.
Scarlet and blue feathered macaws,
Brightly colored parrots,
And multicolored paradise tanagers sing out from tree limbs,
Or as they fly ahead of you,
Their colorful tail feathers gleaming.
You hear the croak of frogs and get the occasional glimpse of animals you've never seen before.
A sloth,
A porcupine,
And some you never knew existed.
You hear the buzzing of insects,
Which thankfully keep their distance.
The jungle is teeming with life,
With color,
With fragrant rich soils and vegetation,
And with an energy you can sense but cannot see.
You only know that something amazing is going to take place.
As your feet take you deeper into the jungle,
A drum beats softly in the distance.
You are at first unsure if it's safe to proceed,
But before the doubt can take hold,
You hear laughter that sets your heart at ease.
Entering a village,
You are immediately greeted by the children who speak a tongue unknown to you.
They are curious.
Their circle parts as an elder of the tribe steps forward to peer at you with dark expressive but kind eyes.
He's wearing the bright plumage of many colorful Amazonian birds,
Making him appear much taller than he actually is.
To your surprise,
He speaks and you understand.
He welcomes you and says he's here to help prepare you for the journey ahead.
Tonight is your initiation.
He walks you to the warm campfire where other members of the tribe are already seated,
Nodding to you as you join them.
Two of them have guitars and are strumming in sweet harmony.
You settle onto a log next to the fire which sparks and crackles,
Warming your skin.
The sweet scent of Palo Santo wood wafting towards you.
Then a beautiful medicine song begins.
You notice a woman who is passing out mugs made of gourds.
She hands you one and pours a dark thick liquid into it.
You smell both rich and delicate notes of cacao and spices.
You inhale deeply and your mouth waters.
You drink and the liquid soothes you with its bittersweet peppery tang.
You wonder what awaits you on this mysterious journey tomorrow and begin to fall into a deep peaceful sleep under the moonlit sky as fireflies spark around you.
In your dreams that night,
The voice of the shaman guides you.
He has taken the shape of a smooth black puma.
He tells you to trust all of your senses.
He tells you to watch for signs from the animal,
Insect,
And plant kingdoms and the elements.
He tells you to be open to things that seem impossible and most importantly he tells you to leave fear behind you.
This is your healing journey,
He says.
And then he asks you,
What is it you most want to heal?
The next morning you're poked awake by the one who is to guide you on.
This one also wears a crown of feathers which you assume are from the macaws you've seen.
He remains silent and only gestures for you to take the sack that he has prepared for you.
But before you leave the village,
The children gather around once more in what you imagine is wishing you well on your journey.
There is something of their innocence and unguarded hearts that touches you deeply and your own heart opens a little wider.
The language of the heart is understood by all.
You walk with your somewhat stern silent guide through the thick forest,
Thankful for his machete as he clears the path ahead of you with a swish swish.
He leads you to the edge of a river,
Lanky white egrets in the reeds where a canoe awaits rocking slightly in the water.
You both climb in and he begins to paddle you up the river.
On the banks of the river you glimpse a family of otters playing.
Overhead you see the colorful feathers of a macaw and confirm your new friend is indeed sporting them.
You see and hear bare-throated bellbirds too.
Ahead you hear a powerful rushing sound and wonder if you're about to enter rapids or go over a waterfall.
You're relieved as you enter a little inlet and discover you're already at the foot of one.
A tall lean waterfall plunges from hundreds of feet ahead of you.
Your mute friend gestures for you to step out onto a rock in the middle of the inlet.
It seems his journey with you ends here.
Is he really going to leave you in the middle of the jungle in the middle of a river?
Your worried expression draws one word from his otherwise silent lips.
Trust.
So you step out and you watch him disappear back out the way you came.
Behind you is the waterfall but something greater still you can only sense.
You turn around and feel the presence of an indescribable force.
You stand facing this majestic waterfall,
Arms outstretched to receive the energy you feel pouring down.
The energy takes the form of a massive eagle which cries out as it sweeps towards you with a whoosh.
As it passes it cleanses your entire being in one stroke.
You can literally feel it dragging negativity and toxicity from your cells and mind.
Then the spray of the waterfall is carried by a growing breeze.
As it hits your body the spray heals the wounds you carry that have closed and protected your heart from the pains of life.
You breathe in deeply and feel some lost part of yourself return.
Turning to face downstream you feel a power rising within you.
Without knowing how or why you understand that you may send this healing energy downstream back to the main river,
Back to your own country,
Your own town,
Your own life,
And all the people in it.
You stand in your authentic power and radiate with a purifying,
Refreshing strength of water.
Obstacles that awake you back home dissolve.
Conflicts are peacefully restored.
Problems that await resolution are changed with the energy of your confident stance.
You have no doubt when you return that your life will be greatly changed,
Forever resonating at a higher frequency.
Your spirit has been freed.
You notice it is starting to get late once again.
A pale moon hangs in the final rays of the setting Sun.
You see several bulldog bats flying toward the moon,
Their wings flapping and tiny voices screeching.
It is time to move on,
But to where and how?
It's getting dark.
You've been very brave up to now,
But suddenly your mind begins to struggle with the problem and fears take hold.
Is that a crocodile in the river off to your right?
Are there snakes in the water?
What is that eerie sound of howling?
The face of your shaman flashes before your eyes.
You remember his message,
Trust.
So you close your eyes and say a humble prayer.
I don't know what to do,
Please guide me.
An electric blue morpho butterfly flutters past you,
Flies back towards you and then flies ahead of you.
It does this again and again.
Curious,
You think as you look down and notice that it does so over a series of stone steps leading you out of the river to the banks.
You follow this butterfly that seems to be leading you on like a puppy eager for a walk with its master.
It flies easily under a bent branch that obstructs your path.
You pull away the draping branch whose broad emerald leaves rustle softly apart and you step into a clearing to find a sudden rush of a thousand butterflies of so many different varieties and colors.
They are so beautiful and fill your heart with a childlike delight you haven't felt since you were a child,
Like those village children.
What magic have you stepped into?
Butterflies dance around you.
Some even land and silently pulse their wings out and in,
In and out,
Then fly off again.
And as you begin to realize the wonder of this moment,
You hear something.
A million whispers.
You try to understand what you're hearing.
Where is it coming from?
You spin around,
Turning this way and that,
And then a single glass wing butterfly alights on your hand.
You draw it near to your face to look at its transparent wings.
Then you realize it's the butterflies.
They are whispering messages.
You focus and begin to discern their tiny voices all around you and discover that their messages are so sweet,
So precious.
You hear,
What's essential is invisible to the eye.
Beauty is seen with the heart.
The answers are within.
Life is sweet.
Embrace your magic.
Perfection is everywhere.
Dreams can come true.
Take heart.
On and on,
The sweet nothings float on the air.
Things you've deeply longed to hear your whole life.
Lean in.
Can you hear their whispers fulfilling that longing?
Take it all in.
Let it fill all the holes that hurt,
Doubt,
And fear have left in you.
As you drift through this field of butterflies,
You see ahead through some trees,
A large shining object.
You step over a path of sparkling quartz stones that slightly turn and crunch under your feet.
As a breeze blows,
You see just beyond the line of trees that no longer obscure the shining object that grows massive before your eyes.
You can make out a pillared building,
A luminescent temple that reveals itself glowing in the moonlight.
Just then,
You hear a clap of thunder.
You can sense that rain is on its way as the air grows moist and electric.
Flashes of lightning light the whole sky.
The moon has disappeared,
But the temple still glows.
It beckons you on.
Shelter from the storm.
Right in the center of this wall-less temple,
You see a large flat stone oddly shaped like a chair.
Tired from walking,
You are relieved to take a seat and watch the unfolding storm.
You hear a few drops of rain,
Then a few more,
Another clap of thunder,
And then sheets of rain pour down all sides of the temple that shelters you.
Monkeys cry off in the distance.
You watch the storm seated on the edge of the big white stone in the center of this sparkling room.
As the storm begins to quiet,
The pour becomes a gentle rain.
The stone you sit upon softens with the rain,
Becoming a soft reclining chair that invites you back.
You relax into it and feel yourself drifting into a deeper and deeper relaxation.
It feels as if a thousand lifetimes of stress is dissolving,
Being pulled from you by the strange body-hugging bed.
Just briefly in your mind's eye,
Your shaman appears,
Nodding as if to say,
Good work.
The clouds part,
The gentle moon shines,
And as you let go more and more,
You find yourself floating and drifting up through a circular window at the top of the temple that opens as you reach it,
Revealing the now crisp clear sky.
You fly out into the stars where all is silent,
Peaceful,
Blissful,
And spacious.
Rest there in the stillness,
Silence,
And spaciousness.
It is now time to return from this adventure to your normal waking state.
Allow a deep breath in and let it out slowly.
Wiggle your fingers and toes and gently open your eyes when you're ready.
Congratulations on completing the journey.
May you have a deeper knowledge of self and the power of imagination to heal.
You are now back in your body,
But you are changed by your experience in ways yet to be revealed to you in your waking life.
Enjoy discovering them.
That ends this guided journey.
