Welcome to today's gratitude meditation.
I'm Colette and I'm very happy that we can spend this time together to pause,
Breathe and open our hearts to what's good in life.
Gratitude is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to shift how we feel and today we take a moment to appreciate our senses and the little often unnoticed things that help make our life feel rich and beautiful in their own way.
Find a quiet place to sit or lie down and make yourself nice and comfortable.
If it feels safe for you to do so you might like to close your eyes or soften your gaze for the practice.
Let's start by taking a nice full deep breath in through the nose,
Holding it at the top for a moment and then slowly releasing the breath through the mouth,
Letting the shoulders soften,
The jaws relax and the body begin to settle.
Let's take another full deep breath in and long slow breath out.
One more deep breath in,
Filling your lungs with air,
Followed by a slow long exhale.
Feel yourself begin to let go of any tension,
Any rush and any need to be anywhere else.
Let yourself sink into this moment,
Relax and allow your breath to guide you into a state of calm and ease.
Now I invite you to bring your awareness to your eyes.
Let's appreciate the eyes for how they allow us to see and experience life.
Thank you eyes for the gift of seeing,
For the joy of watching a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
Thank you for the stunning sights in nature,
Blue skies,
Colourful flowers,
Fluffy clouds and stunning vistas.
Thank you that I can witness the smiles of loved ones and their expressions that can convey warmth kindness and connection.
Thank you for all the small details and moments of beauty that often go unnoticed and for the way my eyes allow me to explore,
Learn and experience the world fully.
Next bring your attention to your ears.
Thank you ears for the gift of hearing,
For the wonders of music,
The joy of hearing the laughter of friends and family,
The chirping of the birds and the soothing sounds of water.
Thank you for allowing me to communicate,
To listen,
To connect and to be present in conversation and in life.
Now I invite you to bring your awareness to your nose.
Thank you nose for the gift of smell,
For the wonderful aromas that delight and guide me.
Thank you for the beautiful scent of flowers,
Freshly baked bread and morning coffee along with the comforting smell of home.
Thank you nose for helping me experience the subtle sense of the world around me.
Now bring your attention to your mouth and sense of taste.
Thank you tongue for allowing me to savour life.
Thank you for the wonderful flavours of my favourite foods,
The sweetness of fruit or chocolate and the warmth of a comforting drink.
Thank you for the nourishment you help me take in and for the simple pleasure of enjoying a delicious meal.
Thank you for my sense of taste.
Next I invite you to bring your awareness to your skin and sense of touch.
Thank you that I can enjoy the feeling of the sun on my back or the cooling sensation of ice or air conditioning on a hot day.
Thank you for the joy of silky soft textures against my skin and the comforting hug or gentle touch from a loved one.
Thank you skin for connecting me to the world and allowing me to experience comfort and sensation.
Finally bring your attention to your whole body.
Thank you for this wonderful body of mine and the gift of my senses.
Thank you that my senses allow me to connect with the world to experience beauty,
Joy,
Comfort and life itself.
Now I'm going to go silent for a minute to allow you to bask in a moment of appreciation or simply enjoy the steady rhythm of your breath,
The comfort of where you're sitting or lying and the simple fact that you've given yourself this time to care for your mind and body.
Rest here in this grateful space.
When you're ready I invite you to slowly wiggle your fingers and toes,
Start to move your body,
Maybe add a little stretch and gently open your eyes.
One final mindful breath in and exhale slowly.
Thank you for practicing with me today and may your mind be peaceful,
Your body be well and your heart filled with gratitude and joy.
