You can't control what happens to you — but you can control how long it affects you. Neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson (University of Wisconsin) has shown that resilience is measurable: it's how quickly your brain recovers after a setback. In some people the amygdala — the brain's alarm system — switches off fast; in others it stays active for hours, replaying the moment. His research found recovery speed is trainable. And a 2023 Stanford trial (Balban et al., Cell Reports Medicine) found that just five minutes of slow breathing with extended exhales improved mood and calmed the nervous system — outperforming meditation. In this session, I'll share the science of the reset and guide you through the simple nasal breathing practice I used through 24 years as a paramedic, 12 on the helicopter. Bad conversation? Bad day? Reset fast. This is the skill.
