Welcome to Safe to Soften.
This meditation is part of the Nervous System Regulation series I created to help the body release vigilance and remember safety.
This is one of the shortest tracks in the series.
In these few minutes,
You are invited to soften gently,
Allowing the nervous system to settle without effort or force.
I invite you to find a position that feels kind to your body,
Seated or lying down.
There is nothing you need to hold.
Let your eyes close softly or lower your gaze.
And before we do anything else,
Notice where your body is being supported,
The surface beneath you,
The pull of gravity,
The quiet work of the earth holding you up.
You don't need to relax.
You don't need to change anything.
Just noticing is enough.
Take a slow breath in through the nose,
And a longer,
Unforced breath out through the mouth,
Again inhaling deep and gentle through the nose,
Exhaling like a quiet sigh.
And as you breathe,
You may begin to notice that there is nothing asking you to be alert right now.
There is no urgency in this moment,
No threat to track,
No problem to solve.
Your body can begin to receive that message,
Slowly,
Naturally,
In its own way.
Notice the weight of your body settling downward,
Muscles releasing effort they didn't realize they were holding,
The jaw softens,
The shoulders at ease,
The belly is allowed to move freely with the breath.
You may even notice that the nervous system responds,
Not to force,
But to permission.
Silently,
Or a whisper,
Say these words to yourself,
It is safe for me to soften.
Notice nothing dramatic happens,
Just a subtle shift,
Like the volume of the world has been taken down a notch.
Repeat again,
It is safe for me to soften.
Breathing in,
And breathing out,
Each exhale tells the body you do not need to stay on high alert.
Each moment of support tells the body you are not alone,
And if thoughts are arising,
You don't need to follow them.
They can pass through like the wind through the trees,
Noticed and released.
For these few minutes,
Your only role is to allow the body to remember something it already knows,
Calm is a baseline,
Safety can be felt.
That settling does not mean collapse,
It means regulation.
One more slow breath in,
And a gentle breath out,
And when you are ready,
Bring your awareness back to the room,
Wiggling your fingers or toes,
Letting the eyes open softly,
Take in this sense of settled presence with you.
Not as something you create,
But as something you allow.
Blessings to you,
Dear soul,
On your journey,
Namaste.
