Hi friends,
It's Beth.
Welcome to your 10-minute morning coffee sensory meditation practice.
Meditation often rests on the subtle sensory observations present in any given moment.
In today's practice,
We will share time with a cup of coffee as our meditation practice.
I invite you to be open to the idea of taking your practice into a space where you typically enjoy coffee.
If this is at home or somewhere else,
I suggest that you get yourself or pour yourself a fresh cup of hot coffee.
But of course,
This is your practice.
Feel free to do this with your eyes closed while simply visualizing or recalling a memory of coffee.
So taking in a deep,
Luscious inhale,
Followed by a long,
Luxurious exhale,
Begin to settle into your space.
And if you're in public,
Of course,
You can keep your eyes open.
Allow yourself to settle into the space,
Feeling the body,
The bones.
Settle,
Relax,
And release.
Take your cup of coffee into your hands.
What is the very first sensation that you notice?
Is it the welcoming scent?
Is it the radiating heat against your hands?
How does the material of your cup feel against your open palms?
Does this sensation soothe you or stimulate you?
How do you cradle your cup of coffee?
What is it about the weight of the cup that feels good?
Allow your natural instincts to bring your attention to the sensations that feel most inviting in this morning practice.
Take a moment to look at the dark liquid in your cup.
Are there small bubbles?
A swirl from cream or sweetener?
What is the quality or emotion that coffee brings to you this morning?
Does it feel like a comfortable,
Friend?
An energetic elixir?
Or a lovely ritual?
Allow yourself to investigate these qualities and feel into what is true for you in this moment.
Linger in the aroma of your fresh cup of coffee on this fresh new morning.
What energy is present in the scent of the coffee?
Before you take a taste,
What if you imagine your coffee infused with that energetic quality?
As you begin to mindfully and slowly sip your coffee,
Allow yourself to linger over the exquisiteness of the warm liquid and the way that it makes you feel.
Is it possible to invite this feeling even more deeply into your body as you enjoy your coffee?
How does that energy feel as it comes in from your cup,
Into the mouth,
Over the tongue,
And down into the body?
For the next minute of your practice,
Rest here with the energy and sensations present in your morning coffee ritual.
If thoughts begin to distract you,
Take a sip and allow the energy of your beautiful peaceful coffee ritual to wash over you and bring you back into this space.
Taking one last leisurely and languid sip of your coffee,
Allow yourself to fully experience the taste,
Texture,
Aroma,
And any other sensations as they come to you.
Perhaps touch back into that energy that you sensed before you began to drink and imagine that energy filling your body and moving with you into your day.
Are you beginning your day with warmth,
Comfort,
And softness?
Or are you beginning with vitality,
Energy,
And alertness?
Whatever the quality you cultivate through this morning coffee meditation practice,
Carry it with you into all the spaces of your day and come back to this meditation if you need refreshed.
