Before you sleep,
Let's take a moment to settle.
To settle the kind of mind that doesn't automatically slow down at night.
If your thoughts are sprinting,
If your body feels restless,
If your brain is still in motion even though you're exhausted,
You're not doing anything wrong.
Some minds don't downshift on their own,
And this practice is here to help you land gently,
One small step at a time.
To get started,
Find a position that feels comfortable or comfortable enough.
You don't need to be perfectly still throughout this meditation.
You don't need to relax on command.
Just let your body settle in whatever way feels natural.
Take a slow breath in,
And let it fall out softly.
If your mind is already bouncing between thoughts,
That's okay.
You're simply arriving.
Notice what your mind is doing right now.
Maybe it's planning,
Replaying.
Maybe it's jumping between ideas.
Maybe it's buzzing with energy that doesn't match the time of night.
You don't need to stop it.
You don't need to quiet it.
You're just acknowledging the momentum.
Let your shoulders drop a little.
Let your jaw loosen.
Let your hands rest in whatever shape they naturally fall into.
Some minds settle best when they have something simple to hold.
Choose one anchor,
Whichever feels easiest.
It might be the weight of your body on the bed,
Or the feeling of your hand resting on your chest or belly,
Or maybe the soft rhythm of your breath.
Stay with that anchor for just a moment,
Not to silence your thoughts,
But just to give them a place to land.
If your attention drifts,
That's completely normal.
Just come back gently to your anchor without any pressure.
If there's a part of you saying,
Why can't I calm down,
Or I should be asleep by now,
Offer that part a little compassion.
You can quietly say inside of yourself,
It's okay that my mind works this way.
I'm allowed to rest slowly.
Feel how your body responds.
Maybe a small shift or tiny release,
Or simply an accepting awareness.
There's no right way to do this.
You're doing it.
Imagine that your mind is like a snow globe.
That's been shaken all day.
Not broken,
Just stirred.
And now piece by piece,
The flakes begin to settle.
Not all at once,
Not perfectly,
Just gradually.
Let your breath become a little slower,
A little softer.
As if your body is quietly saying,
I'm landing now.
Let your thoughts drift without needing to follow them.
Let your body sink a little deeper into the bed.
Let the day loosen its grip.
You don't need to be fully calm to rest.
You just need a little more space.
As you drift towards sleep,
Take a moment to thank yourself for showing up here.
For giving your mind and body a place to rest.

What part of your mind feels a little more settled after this practice?
Your reflections help others feel less alone.
And I read every single one.
Rest well.
