Hello and welcome.
If you are a parent of a teen,
I know how easy it can be to get swept up in the rush of everyday worries,
Caught between fears of your teen's future and echoes of your own past.
This quick guided meditation is here for you to help bring you back to your centre,
Reconnect to your inner wisdom and see your teen for who they are today.
Take these moments to breathe,
Release and find a bit of calm.
Let's begin.
Take a moment to find a comfortable seat.
Let your spine be long but relaxed,
Your shoulders soft and your hands resting gently on your lap.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and as you exhale allow yourself to let go of the day so far.
Let go of whatever is waiting for you later.
Right now,
This time is just for you.
Gently close your eyes if that feels comfortable or soften your gaze.
Begin by taking a few deep slow breaths.
Inhale deeply through your nose,
Filling up your lungs and exhale through your mouth,
Feeling your body begin to soften.
With each breath,
Allow yourself to sink a little deeper into this present moment.
Breathe in calm,
Breathe out tension.
Now let your breath settle into a natural rhythm.
Notice how your body moves with each inhale and exhale,
Your chest rising and falling,
Your shoulders gently expanding and relaxing.
Feel your connection to the surface beneath you,
Feeling grounded,
Held and supported.
As you sit here,
Gently invite any thoughts of fear,
Worry or stress to drift to the side.
The fear of what might come in the future for your teen experiences as a child.
Imagine these thoughts as leaves on a stream.
Watch them float by,
Releasing their hold on you.
You don't need to grab them or follow them.
Simply let them drift away knowing you are here in this moment.
Now bring your attention to your teen as they are today.
Imagine their face,
Their presence.
Picture them not as a problem to solve or a mystery to decode,
But as a whole person right there,
Right now.
See them with curiosity.
Let yourself see the light in them,
Their goodness,
Their playfulness,
The qualities that bring you joy.
Recall a time when they made you laugh,
A moment when their kindness surprised you,
A time that you felt their warmth.
Let yourself focus on this version of your child,
Their highest self,
The part of them that wants to connect with you,
That wants your love and acceptance.
Let that vision expand.
Feel your heart soften as you hold this image.
Notice what arises in your body as you think of your child with this gentle,
Compassionate lens.
Perhaps there is warmth,
A smile forming or a sense of ease in your chest.
Breathe in deeply and imagine that you are breathing in the love that exists between you and your teen as you exhale.
Imagine sending them warmth,
Understanding and acceptance.
Let each breath fill you with hope.
Know that even in the most challenging moments,
This part of your teen still exists and it is this version of your child that you can connect with always.
Now allow your attention to expand to yourself.
Picture your own higher self,
The version of you that is calm,
Wise and loving.
Know that this version of yourself is here guiding you.
Trust that you already have what you need to support your child and trust that your love is enough.
Let go of the pressure to have all the answers right now.
Breathe in,
Feeling that love for yourself and your child.
Exhale,
Feeling any remaining tension release.
Just for these moments,
You are present,
You are grounded and you are enough.
Let that sense of calm stay with you.
Take another deep breath in and as you slowly exhale,
Begin to bring your awareness back to the room.
Feel your body sitting,
Your feet on the floor,
The air against your skin and when you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Thank yourself for taking these moments,
For setting aside the fears of the past and future and for embracing the beauty of your child today.
Remember this connection is always within you.
You can return to this space whenever you need it.
Feel free to take a moment before moving on with your day.
You are doing an incredible job and this connection,
This love is your greatest gift to your child.
