Welcome to the Stonecutter and the Mountain.
Just take a moment to arrive.
Breathe softly.
Feel your body soften.
Shoulders releasing,
Neck softening,
Arms,
Hands,
Fingers letting go.
Back,
Your chest and belly softening,
Hips,
Legs,
Feet and toes release and relax.
Slowly close your eyes.
Take a deeper breath in.
And as you exhale,
Just let go of any stress or tension.
Good.
Now,
Just see yourself sitting at the foot of a great mountain.
It's the kind that wears clouds as its crown.
The air is still,
The earth steady beneath you.
And so,
Our story begins.
There once was a humble stonecutter who lived in a small village at the base of a mountain.
And each day,
This stonecutter worked patiently,
Cutting stone from the cliffs,
Shaping them into blocks for homes and temples.
His hands were strong,
His back was bent,
And his days were filled with the rhythm of hammer and chisel.
And for a time,
He was content.
But one day,
As he labored under the sun,
The stonecutter looked up and saw a wealthy merchant passing by,
Robes shimmering,
Servants following.
How powerful that man must be,
Thought the stonecutter.
If only I could be a merchant,
I would be truly happy.
And in that instant,
Something mysterious stirred in the wind,
And his wish was granted.
He was no longer a stonecutter,
He was a merchant.
He was rich and admired.
He wore fine clothes and traveled with others who bowed before him.
But one day,
As he journeyed across the land,
The sun blazed fiercely above him.
It was so hot that even the merchant's silks could not protect him.
How powerful the sun must be,
He thought.
If only I could be the sun,
I would be mighty indeed.
And his wish was granted,
And he became the sun.
He shone over the beautiful earth,
Radiating warmth and light.
He felt glorious.
Until one day,
A dark cloud drifted by,
Covering the sun's rays.
How powerful that cloud must be,
He thought.
It can hide the sun itself.
If only I could be a cloud.
And so,
He became a cloud.
He drifted freely across the sky,
Pouring rain upon the earth and nourishing the fields below.
He felt strong and full of life,
Until he came to a mountain.
No matter how much he rained,
The mountain stood unmooned,
Unyielding,
Silent in its strength.
How powerful the mountain must be,
Said the cloud.
If only I could be the mountain.
And so,
He became the mountain.
Vast,
Eternal,
Reaching into the sky,
He stood proudly rooted in the earth.
There was nothing that could move him.
Until one morning,
He felt something tapping at his side.
It was a small chisel,
A hammer.
It was the steady rhythm of a stonecutter carving his surface.
And the mountain whispered in sudden understanding,
Ah,
The stonecutter.
Now,
In that moment,
He realized the circle was complete.
Every form that he had become,
The merchant,
The sun,
The cloud,
The mountain,
Each had its power,
Its place,
Its beauty.
And yet,
There was peace only in being himself.
So,
He became once more the humble stonecutter,
Working patiently in the light of the mountain he had once envied.
His heart was full,
His spirit was free.
And the mountain stood quietly behind him,
Whispering with the wind,
Reminding him that true strength lies not in becoming more,
But in being who we already are.
So,
Take a deep breath here.
Feel the steady rhythm of your own heartbeat like the mountain's pulse.
You are already enough,
Strong,
Grounded,
And whole.
So,
Thank you so much for listening to this story about the mountain and the woodcutter.
And may you walk gently through the world.
And remember that,
Like the stonecutter,
Your true power has always been within you.
Namaste,
My friend.
