Welcome to the Discovering Old Habits meditation for sobriety.

My name is Alex and I'm here to guide you today to explore your old habits,

Where they came from,

And what purpose they serve in your life today.

This meditation is designed to help you gently uncover and observe your old habits,

The patterns that may have silently guided your life without your conscious awareness.

So,

Please find a comfortable seated position,

Somewhere you feel calm and safe.

Close your eyes gently and begin by taking three deep breaths.

Inhale slowly,

Feeling your body fill with fresh,

Energizing air.

And exhale fully,

Releasing tension,

Stress,

And distractions.

Two more breaths.

Now,

Let your breathing return to its natural rhythm.

Feel your body relax,

Sinking deeper with every breath you take.

Imagine you are standing at the edge of a peaceful,

Quiet lake.

The surface is calm,

Still,

Like a mirror reflecting your inner truth.

Today,

You have come here to see clearly,

Perhaps for the first time,

The old habits and patterns that you have carried with you through your life.

So,

Take a deep breath,

And ask yourself gently,

What are the habits that have brought me here?

What are the habits that have brought me here?

Are they habits of anger,

Loneliness,

Isolation,

Or self-destructive behaviors?

And as you ask this question,

Watch the surface of the lake ripple gently,

And slowly it begins to show you images,

Scenes,

And memories from your past.

Allow whatever arises to be seen clearly,

And without judgment.

Observe these habits as if they were visitors,

Guests who entered your life at a moment when you needed them for comfort,

Protection,

Or escape.

With those habits that have brought you here,

Ask yourself gently,

Where did these habits come from?

What was happening in your life when they began?

Where did these habits come from?

What was happening in your life when they began?

Allow yourself to see and feel compassion for the version of yourself who first welcomed these habits.

Understand that they served a purpose,

Even if they no longer serve you now.

So ask yourself,

What purpose did these habits serve?

How did they try to protect me?

What purpose did these habits serve?

How did they try to protect me?

Breathe deeply,

Acknowledging these habits for what they are.

They were attempts at comfort,

Protection,

Or connection during moments of anger,

Loneliness,

Isolation,

Or fear.

They were meant to protect you.

Now,

Imagine reaching out gently and touching the surface of the lake,

Dissolving these images back into peaceful water,

Releasing your attachment to them.

Say softly to yourself,

I see you.

I acknowledge you.

And now,

I gently release you.

I see you.

I acknowledge you.

And now,

I gently release you.

Feel a profound sense of relief as you let these old habits drift away,

Knowing that awareness is the first step towards freedom.

Take three deep,

Cleansing breaths,

Feeling lighter and more open each time you exhale.

Slowly begin to bring awareness back into your body.

Slowly,

Wiggle your fingers and toes,

And gently open your eyes.

Welcome back.

Take a moment to journal or reflect on what you discovered today.

Remember,

Recognizing your old habits with clarity and compassion is a powerful step forward in your sober journey.

You are exactly where you need to be.

Trust this process.

Namaste.

This is a hard part of the process. Inviting our old habits to come to the forefront and accepting them so that we can move forward in the process of healing. I’m grateful for this 5th meditation that Alex has created in this sequel as he is able to walk us through in such a warm, welcoming way. Assuring us that we are ok. This meditation felt like a strong, warm hug.
