Hello my gorgeous love,
Hello my beautiful one,
Good evening.
I hope you had a day filled with joy and wonder and so much fun.
As you get settled into your soft,
Cozy bed tonight,
I am so glad that you have joined me for our bedtime story together.
My name is Abigail and as we journey into sleep together,
Let's take a moment for some mindful breathing.
This means we'll take a few deep breaths together.
Lay your head down on your pillow,
Stretch your legs all the way out,
Wiggle your toes a little bit,
Wiggle them,
Wiggle them,
Wiggle them.
Alright,
Get your hands straight as well and then you can put your hand on your heart.
And if you're wondering where oh where is my heart,
It's right in the middle of your chest.
You might be able to even feel your heart beating as you put your hand on your chest.
And then my love,
Gently close your eyes and before we take our deep breath together,
Can I see that gorgeous smile my love?
There it is,
There it is,
I see that beautiful smile.
Look at that gorgeous smile,
It's lighting up your whole face.
As we get ready to take those deep breaths together,
Will you still keep that smile on your face?
Alright,
Here we go.
Take a deep breath all the way in,
And then all the way out.
Oh,
That was so good,
That felt so good for my body,
Should we do a second one?
Let's do a second one,
Get yourself ready,
Wiggle your toes really quickly,
There you go,
And get your hand on your heart,
Take a deep breath all the way in,
And then hold it just for a moment,
And then let it all the way out my love,
All the way out.
There you go,
Oh how wonderful,
Oh that feels so peaceful right now.
And now that we've taken our breaths,
Now that you're all snug in your bed,
Your head is on your pillow,
Let me ask you a really important question.
Have you ever made a wish?
Tonight I'll be sharing a story with you about Abby's wish,
And we will find out all about her wish,
And we'll find out if that wish came true.
Are you ready?
Here we go.
Abby's wish.
When Abby was three years old,
She made a wish.
You see,
Abby was the only child,
That means she did not have any brothers or sisters.
She lived for her mom and her dad,
And her dog Puppy.
Abby had lots of fun playing and laughing with her friends when she was at school,
And she also had fun at home because she had lots of stuffed animals and toys to play with.
Abby would set up tea parties for Teddy the Bear and her dolls Amanda and Deedee.
Every evening after dinner,
Abby took a bath,
Brushed her teeth,
And got into her cozy bed.
I wonder,
Do you think if Abby took a few deep breaths before she fell asleep?
Every night,
While lying in her bed,
Abby would look up at the stars through her bedroom window and make a wish.
This is what she said.
Stars in the bright sky and wind in the night,
I wish,
I wish with all my might,
A brother on my birthday is what I would like.
She repeated these words two times,
Then she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
Abby made the same wish every night for two years.
If you're wondering how many nights are in two years,
Let me tell you my friend,
It is approximately seven hundred and thirty nights.
Can you imagine that?
Seven hundred and thirty nights of making the same wish?
Even on rainy nights when she could not see the stars in the sky,
She still quietly whispered,
Stars in the bright sky and wind in the night,
I wish,
I wish with all my might,
A brother on my birthday is what I would like.
One Saturday morning,
While eating pancakes at the breakfast table,
Abby's parents shared some amazing news with her.
Abby's mom told her that she was going to have a baby.
There was a baby in her tummy,
Which meant that she was pregnant,
And Abby was going to be a big sister.
Abby squealed with delight and she hugged her mom and dad tightly.
She smiled and she said,
I cannot wait to meet my baby brother.
There was a lot of work to get done around the house before the baby arrived.
Abby was excited to help her mom get things ready for the baby.
She selected some of her favorite books and soft toys from when she was a baby and she placed them in a basket for the new baby.
Nine months went by and when it was the day of the baby's arrival,
Abby and her dad went to the hospital to see her mom and to meet the new baby.
Baby Grace was lovely.
She had curly black hair just like Abby.
She was tiny and warm and she smelled like lavender.
Abby's mom smiled and said,
Abby,
Would you like to hold the baby?
Abby sat down and held Baby Grace carefully in her arms.
That night,
After kissing her mom and dad goodnight,
Abby laid in bed thinking about all of the fun things she would do with her sister Grace.
As she felt her eyes fluttering to sleep,
Abby quietly whispered,
Stars in the bright sky and wind in the night,
My baby Grace,
Oh what a sight.
Will you remember my wish tonight?
A brother on my birthday is what I would like.
A few months went by and Abby played and laughed and helped her mom to care for her sister.
One morning,
After pancake breakfast,
Abby's dad announced that there will be another baby in the family.
Abby was thrilled.
She gasped,
She clapped her hands as these questions buzzed in her mind.
Could this be it?
His brother on his way?
She wondered if her wish would come true.
The months went by and Abby helped her mom get things ready for the new baby.
Once again,
She added some of her favorite books and some of her favorite toys to the baby basket for her new baby.
On Monday,
March 9th,
It was Abby's sixth birthday.
There were balloons all around her house because Abby was having a birthday party.
She was in the kitchen helping her grandma Nissa with the cake when her dad said,
Abby,
We have to go to the hospital.
Our new baby might be here today.
Abby jumped up and down in delight.
Then she said again,
Today,
Today's the day that the baby might come on my birthday.
Oh my goodness,
It might be my baby brother,
Dad.
Abby could not wait.
She held her dad's hands tightly as they walked into the hospital room.
Abby's mom was smiling and holding the baby.
Abby held her breath.
Can you hold your breath for a second?
Let's find out.
Her mom looked at her and she said,
Happy birthday,
My dearest Abby.
Your wish has come true.
Come meet your baby brother,
Joshua.
Abby was so happy.
She began to cry softly.
She could not believe it,
A brother on her birthday,
Just like she had wished.
She walked over to the bed and kissed her brother on the forehead.
He held her thumb with his tiny fingers.
That night,
After kissing her parents and her sister Grace and her baby brother Joshua,
Abby went to bed.
And as she laid in her bed,
She felt a cool breeze on her cheeks.
She looked up at the stars through the window.
She smiled.
Then she whispered,
Stars in the bright sky and wind in the night,
A brother on my birthday.
Oh,
What a delight.
Thank you for granting my wish tonight.
Tonight,
I am grateful for your love and for your eternal light.
Then Abby closed her eyes and peacefully fell asleep.
The end.
If you're still awake,
My darling,
May you have sweet dreams tonight.
And may the special wish that lives inside of your heart in a special and magical way.
Let's take two deep breaths together,
Shall we?
All right.
Get that smile back on.
Get that gentle smile on your face,
My love.
There you go.
Nice,
Gentle smile.
And let's take a deep breath all the way in.
Are you ready?
All the way in.
Hold it for a second.
And then slowly let it all the way out.
Ah.
Should we try it one more time?
So one more deep breath all the way in.
And then all the way out,
My love.
There you go,
My darling.
You did it.
I can still see your smile,
By the way.
Well,
Now that you've been up for a while,
I hope you have sweet dreams tonight.
May you be happy.
May you be safe.
May you sleep well,
My love.
I love you until we meet again for our next story.
Sweet dreams.
