Hello,

I'm Zoe.

I'm an Australian and I run Yoga Works for over 40s.

It's a yoga ayurveda therapy class where I combine ayurveda with the yoga.

I'm a yoga therapist trained twice in yoga therapy.

The reason why I teach yoga therapy is because I can use the tools of ayurveda.

Ayurveda,

Some people think is quite complex,

But in these series of audios I'm going to create,

I'm going to simplify ayurveda and just bring it down to an everyday usage and perspective.

I combine yoga with ayurveda because I believe that yoga on its own without ayurveda is only 50% of the benefit.

If we do yoga on the mat,

But then leave the mat and don't bring the ayurvedic principles into our life,

Then we're going to be stressing the body when we are off the mat.

If our body is stressed,

The way I look at it is that we have little soldiers inside of our body,

These fighting cells that keep the germs out of our body.

If our body is stressed and exhausted,

Those cells and those fighting cells are used to boost up the body's energy.

Perhaps they're boosting the nervous system.

Instead of being there to fight off any invading germs,

They're working elsewhere and things can slip into our system and cause us harm.

What ayurveda has brought to me in my life is an understanding and acceptance of myself and of others.

Once you learn about how ayurveda works,

You will start to see it everywhere,

As did I.

I could start seeing it even in my animals,

In the cat,

In the dog.

I was seeing it in our politicians.

I was aware of it in my loved ones,

My family,

My friends.

I was able to discern whether they were vata,

Pitta,

Or katha,

What their predominant dosha was.

Now I can even tell what a person's dosha is by just simply speaking with them on the phone.

Because depending on what's going on in our body is how we react to life.

It will come out in people's behavior,

In their speech,

In just the way they live their life.

Ayurveda is concerned with what we ingest through our senses,

Our mouth,

Our nose,

Our ears,

Our eyes,

Our skin.

For some people,

Say a pitta person who's a fiery person,

Going to see a movie that is full of action and full of fighting will increase their pitta,

Like increases like.

For a katha person who's more laid back and sedentary and hard to get motivated at times or just enjoys,

Well they do say the katha person's favorite clothes are their pajamas and their favorite toys are remote control.

A katha person can do well from seeing a movie that is action packed because they need the action.

Likewise,

A vata person who's running on their nervous system,

Going and seeing a movie that's going to stimulate their nervous system and stimulate their anxiety is going to bring about vata type symptoms.

Now in these courses of talks that I'm going to give on ayurveda,

I'm going to explain to you how you can see ayurveda,

Which is a holistic natural science.

It's all around us.

It's in the weather.

It's in the time of the day.

It's in the food we eat.

It's everywhere.

I'm going to open your eyes to be able to see this beautiful science of life.

That's what ayurveda means,

Science of life.

Yoga means union.

We're bringing together the union of the body and the mind combined with the science of life.

Having these tools will help us look after our body,

Our vehicle.

This is our vehicle for life on this planet.

Just as we look after our car,

We need to look after our body internally and externally.

We need to be aware of the things that we do and how we can change to bring ourself back to a state of balance.

Of course,

Most importantly,

We need to have a sense of what good health and balance is.

My yoga works for over 40s.

I have three classes,

A morning class,

A lunchtime class,

And a sleepy time class.

The idea of these classes is to show people how they can bring yoga and ayurveda into their daily life.

What you do when you wake up in the morning,

What you do at lunchtime,

What you do before you go to bed,

By bringing these tools into your life this way,

Will increase your well-being.

It will be fantastic for those who are around you.

You will be a light,

A beacon.

You will be a great role model for your family,

For your friends.

Most of all,

You will be giving yourself love.

Self-love is one of the lessons of life.

How do we love ourselves?

How do we look after ourselves?

How do we take responsibility for ourselves,

As well as discerning what is balance?

How am I when I'm balanced?

How am I when I'm not balanced?

What do I need to do to bring myself back into a state of balance?

I hope you enjoyed this little talk.

Stay tuned for more.
