Aham is a Sanskrit term which means "self" or "I." The mantra ‘aham’ (I am), is a vehicle to connect you to the present moment and to let go of what no longer serves you. Your job may change, your relationships may change, your body may change, your beliefs may change, your role in the world may change... but you, the one who is having these experiences, will always be. By resting in present moment awareness, this meditation practice will help you rediscover the ultimate essence of your soul.

Welcome to this meditation session to rediscover who you are.

Let's start by resting comfortably on your cushion or chair,

Sitting with a relaxed but straight posture.

Allow your hands to rest comfortably in your lap,

Gently close your eyes,

Relax your shoulders,

Unclench your jaw,

Uncrease your forehead,

Take this moment to just be.

Now is the time to really let go of all that no longer serves you.

Whatever is on your to-do list and whatever is on your mind,

Just remind yourself that you can get to it straight after this meditation session.

But for now,

Really allow yourself this moment of peace and calm.

Whatever is on your mind,

Let it go.

You are exactly where you need to be right now.

Settling into an awareness of the body and the breath,

As you breathe in,

Be aware of breathing in and as you breathe out,

Be aware of breathing out.

Allow your breath to be natural and easy,

Not focusing or concentrating in any way.

Take a deep breath in and out,

In and out,

Just focus on the breath,

Nothing but the breath.

Now let's shift our attention from the breath to ourselves.

Let's tune into sensations of the body.

Tune into the warmth of your skin,

The beautiful pulsation of your heart,

A beautiful scent in the air.

Maybe you can feel the cushion or your chair supporting you,

Grounding you,

Lifting you up.

Maybe there's a noise in your environment.

Maybe it's just the sound of your breath.

Or maybe it's just the pulsation of your heart.

Tune into the beautiful sensations of the body,

This beautiful body allowing us to breathe and be a part of this universe day after day.

Continue focusing on the breath,

Nothing but the breath.

Inhale,

Exhale,

Inhale,

Exhale.

It's so common to attach ourselves to our roles,

Achievements,

Relationships or titles.

For example,

I'm a mother,

Or I'm a CEO,

Or I'm Australian.

These are all simply roles that we may play within society.

Each of these identity points represents some aspect of ourselves,

But not the ultimate essence of who we really are.

Your job may change,

Your relationships may change,

Your body may change,

Your beliefs may change.

All of these things will come and go,

But you,

The one who's having these experiences will always be.

This expansion of self-awareness is the essence of meditation.

Your ultimate essence is unbounded,

Eternal,

Joyful,

Loving,

Peaceful.

To reignite and reclaim our ultimate essence,

Let's ask ourselves some soul questions.

First question,

Who am I?

Who am I is not an image,

Sensation,

Feeling or thought.

Simply shift into the presence of being,

Because that's who you are.

Who am I?

Shift into being,

Just be.

Second question,

What do I want?

What do I want is an experience,

But you don't force an experience.

You ask,

What do I want,

And then allow the experience to come to you right now in the form of a sensation,

Image,

Feeling or thought.

Just be open to it.

What do I want?

Third question,

What is my purpose?

This is also an experience,

So just allow any image,

Feeling,

Sensation or thought to come to you.

Again,

Just stay open to it.

What is my purpose?

Fourth question,

What am I grateful for?

Allow any sensation,

Image,

Feeling or thought to come to you right now.

What am I grateful for?

Now,

Silently begin saying the following sentence,

I am,

And then your full name,

First name and last name.

Now,

Drop your last name and just repeat,

I am,

And then your first name.

Now,

Drop your first name and just repeat,

I am,

I am,

I am.

Continue repeating to yourself the mantra,

I am.

Now,

Let's change the I am to aham,

Aham,

Aham,

Aham,

Aham,

Aham,

Which is the vibration of I am.

Aham,

Aham,

Aham.

Continue repeating to yourself the mantra,

Aham.

The repetition of the mantra is gentle and relaxed.

There is no need to force or concentrate.

Whenever thoughts may arise,

Just acknowledge them and then gently come back to the mantra.

Please continue meditating.

I'll watch the time and let you know when to stop repeating your mantra.

Gently and effortlessly let go of the mantra and rest in existence.

Rest in awareness.

Rest in being.

Just rest.

Sat chit ananda.

Sat chit ananda.

Existence,

Consciousness,

Being.

Resting in existence,

Awareness,

Being.

Resting in presence.

Resting in I.

That's who you are.

Now take a few long deep breaths.

Wiggle your fingers and your toes and whenever you're ready in your own time,

Gently open your eyes.

Bring your palms together in front of your heart center and just bow down with gratitude to your soul.

Namaste.

Great guidance - very clear and easy to follow. The soul questions were meaningful and loved the transition to I AM from the name. 🙏🏻🕉☮️💟
