There is a lag between actions and rewards.
What I mean by that is,
We sit down daily to meditate but we don't sit down daily with the expectation that that day's meditation will create a noticeable impact upon functioning.
Most of us meditate for a reason.
We practice mindfulness,
Our mind wants us to bring it back,
Our mind wants us to bring it back but we do it daily and over time to get the small incremental benefits.
But there's this underlying assumption that we need to hold because otherwise we might fall off.
It's that there is a lag between our actions,
The daily meditation,
And the results.
A calmer mind,
A more focused mind,
Improved functionality,
Decreased reactivity,
And so on and so forth.
A good analogy is exercise.
You go to the gym,
You pick up the weights,
You exercise but you don't expect to see noticeable improvements in your cardiovascular system,
In your muscle density,
Or in your strength.
You lift the weights knowing that over time eventually you will see the results.
Maybe in a month or two months or three months people will start to notice,
Maybe you start to notice,
But there's a lag.
You put in the effort daily and eventually the rewards come.
Now yes there is a benefit to each individual session but that benefit is so small,
Most likely,
That it is so subtle that you won't see it.
But put that subtle,
You know,
The grains of sand and eventually the scales tip and it becomes noticeable.
So I want to highlight that in terms of meditation.
Each daily practice you do,
You do with,
Faith isn't the right word,
But you do with the trust that your efforts that you're doing now will produce results over time.
Small actions done daily will give you the reward at the end,
Whatever that reward is of your practice,
But there is a lag.
So the whole point of this short talk is to say,
Hey,
Practice daily knowing that eventually the reward will come,
You'll get stronger,
You're lifting daily,
You'll get calmer,
More focused if you meditate daily.
Does that make sense?
