I invite you to close your eyes and remember the last time you saw the moon.
Was it full or crescent?
Did you see it in the thick of night or in the early morning glow?
What effect did its presence have on you?
Imagine what it must feel like to be the moon,
Loyally orbiting the Earth.
Watching the Earth and all its life,
Day and night.
Without the moon,
Life on Earth wouldn't exist.
She's Earth's best friend,
Always there to support her in her creations.
Think about the people in your life.
Which ones of them are moons?
Who are the people who are there day and night to support you in reaching your highest potential?
Even if they sometimes appear to be gone.
Maybe it's your mother who stayed up all night with you when you couldn't sleep.
Or your best friend who would drop anything to be there for you.
Or your partner who loves you even when you're at your worst.
Maybe you can think of many people.
Maybe you can think of just one.
That's okay,
Because all you need is one.
The moon may seem inconsistent because of her different phases and shifting position in the sky,
But she's always there,
Even when we can't see her.
Just like our moon people are always there to support us,
Even when they aren't physically with us.
Whose moon are you?
Maybe you're a parent who would drop it all to be there for your sick child.
Or a loyal friend who would show up at your friend's door with ice cream when they're down.
We can't survive on our own.
We are interconnected beings who are meant to support each other in our journeys towards becoming our best selves.
Just like the Earth and the Moon,
Each of us having our own part to play.
What roles do you play in your community?
What role would you like to play?
Have you ever wondered where the moon comes from and why it loyally orbits the Earth?
Let yourself travel back in time four and a half billion years ago,
Near the time the Earth was created.
At this point in our evolutionary journey,
The Earth was brand new,
Just a baby.
One day,
A planetismal the size of Mars collided with the Earth,
Plowing right through the center in the most violent encounter the Earth has ever experienced.
At this point in Earth's life,
It was mostly molten lava,
So as large chunks of the Earth broke off into space,
Some of the planetismal was absorbed into the Earth.
The broken off pieces of Earth and the debris from the planetismal were caught in Earth's orbit and over time formed into the Moon.
Ever since,
The Moon has been dancing around the Earth.
You remember a time in your life when a part of you was broken.
Maybe like the Earth,
This happened when you were very young and in your most vulnerable state.
When you felt your most shattered,
You might have thought you lost a part of yourself.
But that part that you thought you lost is still there,
Orbiting your being like the Moon.
Ask yourself,
What part of me has been separated from the rest?
Notice the answer that pops into your mind.
See where that part of you has been hiding.
When you find it,
Just take a moment to sit with it.
What does it have to say?
Is there anything that you'd like to say to this part of you so it can reintegrate into your being?
