This time,
I invite you to keep your eyes open.
Bring your awareness to the act of seeing.
We do this all day long without being fully aware of our eyes that are doing the seeing.
What is it that you can see in this moment?
Can you feel into the sensations of the eyes?
Now close your eyes.
Imagine what life would be like if you could not see.
One way to do this is to allow yourself to travel back in time 500 million years ago before eyes existed.
Up until this point in time,
Seeing wasn't a part of life.
Until the first eye came into existence in the trilobite,
An aquatic creature from the Paleozoic era.
Not only did the trilobite create a way to see,
But eyes have been constructed independently 40 different times in the evolutionary process of creatures.
It's almost as if life was determined to see.
Why?
Survival,
Certainly.
But what if there was something more?
A longing for a deeper intimacy with the world.
Life wanted to see itself.
Could it be that through life's journey,
It has been evolving to be able to discover more about itself?
Once creatures had the capacity to see,
The universe was able to see itself for the first time through the eyes of the trilobite.
Open your eyes again.
You are the most evolved form of the universe,
Seeing itself through your eyes.
Take a moment to let that sink in.
You are not a separate individual looking at an external world.
You are the universe itself,
Seeing itself in this very moment.
And you were created to help the universe learn more about itself.
What is it that you see?
Not only with your physical eye,
But with your mind's eye.
The particular way in which you see the world helps the universe learn things about itself that it can't learn from anyone else's experience.
Because your experience is unique.
Close your eyes once again and let yourself scan your life up until this point.
What have you seen during your life?
What moments stand out to you as important?
What perspective do you have on the world?
What do you think the universe is trying to learn through you?
