Welcome to this guided meditation for sleep and rest.
I invite you to come with me on a journey to a serene and peaceful beach near my house.
Did you know that listening to a soothing voice and hearing ocean waves can have a profound effect on the brain and help to promote relaxation and sleep?
This is because these sounds can help to synchronize brain waves which in turn leads to a more restful and restorative sleep.
Our brain waves begin to slow down.
This is known as alpha wave activity.
Listening to ocean waves produces alpha waves in our brain.
Our brain synchronizes with the rhythm and frequency of the ocean waves.
Ready?
Take my hand as we walk down this path past my cottage to the beach.
The path is lit by a bright moon.
We will walk through some low waves to the open roof pavilion I have built.
Picture yourself lying in a comfortable hammock swaying gently with the breeze.
We are surrounded by the sounds of the ocean,
The soft rustle of trees,
And the soothing rhythm of the waves.
As we lay here we're going to focus on the night sky above us.
The moon is very big tonight.
Silver.
The stars twinkle and dance and the moon reflects a soft glow on the water.
We take in the beauty of the cosmos and allow ourselves to relax and unwind.
As we focus on the night sky take a deep breath and release any tension or stress from your mind,
Heart,
Or body.
Let go of any thoughts or worries that might be keeping you awake.
Instead allow yourself to just gently rock in the hammock and look up at the night sky.
Each star starts to appear one by one like a grand opening of a celestial theater.
The stars each twinkle and dance as if they're trying to catch our attention.
You can't help but be filled with wonder and awe looking up at the night sky.
The stars seem so distant yet they are a constant reminder that we are not alone in the universe.
But more than stars we can also notice other celestial wonders.
We see comets,
Falling stars,
And mirrors,
All adding to the beauty and mystery of the night sky.
Comets with their long tails trailing behind them are like celestial travelers passing through our solar system.
They are made up of ice and dust and as they pass near the sun the ice begins to melt and evaporate creating a beautiful tail that points away from the sun.
They are often named after their discoverers and can be seen from earth each every few years.
Falling stars or meteors are like tiny specks of light that shoot across the night sky.
They are actually just pieces of dust and rock that burn up as they enter the earth's atmosphere.
They can be seen in large numbers during meteor showers which occur when the earth passes through a stream of debris left behind by a comet.
As we continue to look up at the night sky we start to see more and more celestial wonders.
We see fireballs which are larger pieces of debris that burn brighter and longer than normal meteors.
And we can see meteorites before they land on earth.
They are pieces of debris that actually survive the trip through the atmosphere and land back on earth.
The night sky is also a place where we can witness the collisions of celestial objects.
We can see shooting stars caused by asteroids and comets crashing into the moon and sometimes even into earth.
These events can be spectacular when we see the light from the impact in a short period of time.
As we continue to look up at the night sky we start to realize just how vast and mysterious the universe is.
The stars and other celestial objects that we see are just a small fraction of what is out there.
Scientists estimate that there are over 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe.
Each contain billions of stars.
The universe is so vast that it is difficult for our minds to process.
Every time I look up at the moon I ask myself is this the same moon that Cleopatra used to look up to and wonder about?
And it is.
People have looked up at the stars and asked themselves questions about the universe and their placement.
They have used the stars to navigate and to tell time.
They have used the stars to create stories and myths and even today,
Tonight,
As we look up into the night sky we are still always filled with a sense of wonder and awe.
It is an unpredictable canvas.
You never know what you might see.
A shooting star,
A lunar shower,
A comet or even a falling satellite.
There are familiar very large stars that we know.
There are planets and our own moon.
Let's just keep watching for what we can see up there.
There's a warm wind that gently rocks our hammocks to the same beat as the waves.
Is there anything more soothing than rocking in a hammock on a beautiful night looking up at the stars?
I hope you have found that hearing the soothing voice of a star guide can have a common effect on your mind and body and that you have a more restful and restorative sleep.
I hope you have found that you have a more restful and restorative sleep.
You better walk you back to your bed so you can fall asleep in your own bed and not in the hammock.
Take my hand now and we'll walk back to the path.
I'll tuck you in.
As we come to the end of this guided meditation,
I hope you have found it to be a relaxing and peaceful experience.
I'm glad I could share my cottage and beach with you.
