Today we'll work with mantra meditation.
Mantra is sacred sound.
It is an ancient technology of vibrational healing that is available to us at all times.
And really,
What this meditation does is helps us to tune into what's called the natural breath mantra.
The mantra is pronounced Hamsa,
H-A-M-S-A-H.
And it is said that this mantra is always present on the rhythm of your breath.
So today's practice will be tuning into the Hamsa mantra,
Listening for the Hamsa mantra as you breathe naturally,
Without effort,
Without doership.
And instead,
Simply tuning into this amazing mantra and receiving the benefits of your awareness on it.
Hamsa translates to,
I am that.
I am that.
That meaning infinite consciousness.
I am conscious awareness.
And so when we attune to this mantra,
We become more aware that we're aware.
And it can have profoundly healing,
Relaxing effects on our entire body system,
Our subtle body,
Our physical body,
Our connection with something greater than ourselves.
This mantra has been passed down all the way from Ganeshpuri,
India.
Bhagwan Nityananda was the root teacher who gave this mantra,
This practice to Swami Muktananda,
Who gave this practice to Swami Rudrananda,
Who gave this practice to Sri Shambhavananda,
Who I received this practice from.
So you are connecting with a very powerful,
Very ancient vibrational frequency that has been passed down for many,
Many years.
So we'll begin by finding a tall spine.
You can be seated or lying down,
Just ensure that you're comfortable.
And begin to draw your awareness from the outer world to the inner world.
And you might observe the quality of your mind.
And here just noticing without judgment or doership,
Simply observe where you are in this moment.
You're in the right place.
This is the right time.
No matter what your inner experience is,
Is right.
Tune into your breath rhythms.
Sometimes it's useful to slowly draw in a long,
Smooth inhale through the nose.
And exhale.
Even longer,
Deeper,
Fuller exhale through the mouth.
To really just arrive in this moment in your body.
And as you settle now,
Close the lips,
Breathing through the nose.
But without any force,
Without any guidance or direction,
Simply observe the breath.
And as you observe the breath,
See if you can listen for the Hamsa mantra that is already activated internally.
Listening for the hum on the inhale and the saw on your exhale.
Continuing to have this curiosity around the breath.
Attuning your awareness to the frequency of Hamsa.
I am consciousness.
Natural breath.
Listening for hum on the inhale.
Saw on the exhale.
Seeing how much you can surrender to your own innate natural rhythm.
Seeing if you can attune to the natural breath without efforting or controlling or changing the breath in any way.
Other than simply offering your curious attention,
Your inquisitive awareness.
Listening for hum on the inhale and saw on the exhale.
It is natural for the mind to wander,
For thoughts to come and go.
All you need to do is acknowledge if your mind has wandered and gently,
Gently draw your attention back to hum on the inhale.
Saw on the exhale.
I am that.
I am seeing if you can feel the vibration of this natural breath mantra emanating from your breath.
Life is full of distractions.
It is a natural part of being alive,
Being human in this world.
So if there are distractions around you,
Which there will be,
Simply acknowledge them and then gently draw your awareness back to the practice.
Connecting with the vibration,
Frequency,
Hamsa.
I am consciousness.
Feeling how soft,
How subtle this awareness can be for you.
Releasing the practice will conclude with a gratitude offering.
You might place your hands on your heart or just feel a sense of gratitude toward your body and feel a sense of gratitude coming from your body.
From your inner self.
Filling up as though you're a goblet filling with the beautiful energy of gratitude,
Expanding.
There is a never ending source within you.
Continue to fill with the energy of gratefulness.
And then when you feel overflowing,
You can offer that up to someone who is special to you,
Your teacher,
Teacher's teacher,
The lineage that delivered this practice to you,
Or someone that needs a little boost.
Offer it freely,
The energy of your gratitude.
Returning your hands to your lap.
Feel the resonance of that energy showering down over you.
