This poem by Rumi calls the soul to remain awake at the threshold between worlds. It whispers a call to conscious awareness and to transcend the old patterns of sleep. Through the open door of inner knowing, we are called to stay present and awake. Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi, popularly known as "Rumi", is a 13th-century Sufi poet. Today, he is recognised as one of the greatest poets who ever lived, due in part to how his words seem to speak to the Divine. Photo by Jo Lord. Translation by Coleman Barks.

Transcript

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.

Don't go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.

Don't go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the door sill where the two worlds touch.

The door is round and open.

Don't go back to sleep.
