Hello,
My sweet listener.
Welcome to Storytime with Nana Jojo.
I'm so happy you're here.
I'm Nana Jojo,
And I have another special story to share with you today.
But first,
Let's get cozy.
Grab your favorite stuffie.
Find your soft blanket and snuggle in.
Now let's take some slow deep breaths together.
When we breathe slowly,
Our bodies feel calm and relaxed.
So take a big breath in through your nose.
And breathe out with a happy sigh like this.
You Let's do that again.
Big breath in.
And breathe out again with a happy sigh.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm One more time.
Big breath in.
And breathe out.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh Super duper job.
Do you feel nice and relaxed?
Yay,
I do too!
Okay,
My sweet little one,
It's time for our story.
This is another story about Luna,
The little star.
The kind and caring star who loves to help children from way up in the night sky.
Are you ready?
Okay,
Let's begin.
Once upon a time,
High up in the night sky,
There lived a little star named Luna.
Every night,
Luna shined her soft,
Gentle light through bedroom windows,
Helping children feel safe as they drifted off to sleep.
Luna loved her job.
One quiet evening,
Luna was twinkling in her spot high up in the sky when she noticed something below.
She saw a cozy house,
And inside,
A boy named Oliver was lying in his bed.
Oliver had a soft pillow.
A warm blanket.
And his favorite stuffed bear tucked in beside him.
But Oliver's eyes were wide open.
His body was wiggling and his mind was spinning round and round.
Like a merry-go-round that just wouldn't stop.
Luna floated a little closer to Oliver's window and she peeked inside.
Oh,
Little one,
Luna said softly.
It looks like sleep hasn't come to visit you yet.
Oliver looked up at the sky.
Luna,
He whispered.
I can't sleep.
I've been trying and trying,
But my brain keeps thinking about things.
What kind of things?
Luna asked.
Oliver thought for a moment.
Everything,
" he said.
My birthday?
What's for lunch tomorrow?
A silly thing I said at school today.
And what my dog might be dreaming about right now.
Luna nodded.
She understood.
She had seen this happen many,
Many times before.
You know what,
Oliver?
Luna said.
Your brain is doing exactly what brains do.
It's thinking.
That's its job.
But sometimes,
Especially when it's time to sleep,
Your brain just needs a little help remembering that it can rest.
How can I do that?
Oliver asked.
Let me show you something,
Luna said.
It's a little trick I share with children all over the world.
First,
Let's start with your body,
" Luna said.
Can you feel your feet Oliver?
Just notice them.
Now wiggle your toes.
Just a tiny bit.
And then stop wiggling and let them be still.
Oliver wiggled his toes.
Then you let them be still.
Luna said.
Now your legs.
Pretend your legs are made of warm sand.
And let them sink down into your bed.
Oliver let his legs go heavy.
Create.
Now your tummy,
Luna said.
Take one slow breath in.
And let it all the way out.
Let your tummy be nice and soft.
Oliver breathed in.
And then he breathed out.
Good,
Said Luna.
Now your hands.
Open your fingers wide.
And then squeeze them gently,
Like you're holding the handlebars of your bike.
Oliver opened his hands with his fingers wide.
And then he squeezed them gently.
And now your face,
" Luna said softly.
Open your eyes really wide.
And then close them.
Now open your mouth wide.
And close your mouth.
Now let your whole face be soft and still.
Oliver opened and closed his eyes.
Opened and closed his mouth.
And he let his whole face relax.
He felt a little heavier.
A little slower.
But his brain was still thinking.
Luna?
My body feels better.
But my mind is still going,
Oliver said.
Luna smiled her gentle star smile.
That's okay,
She said.
Let's give your mind something soft and quiet to do.
Are you ready?
Oliver nodded yes.
Close your eyes and imagine you're floating,
Luna said softly.
Not flying,
Just floating.
Like you're lying on a big puffy white cloud.
The night is warm.
And you're floating safely through the sky.
Oliver closed his eyes.
He imagined himself resting on a soft white cloud,
Slowly floating along.
Now,
Luna said quietly.
Every time a thought comes by.
About birthdays or lunch or anything else.
You don't have to push it away.
Just notice it.
Like a little cloud drifting past.
And then come back to the floating again.
Sure enough,
A thought about lunch came by.
Oliver noticed it.
And then he went back to floating on the puffy white cloud.
A thought about school came by.
He noticed that one too.
Any let it go.
Luna watched from the sky.
Glowing soft and steady.
Oliver,
She whispered.
I want you to know something.
Sleep will come.
You don't have to chase it.
The more you rest.
The closer sleep gets.
Even if you're just lying still.
Sleep is coming for you.
It's quiet.
It's like a friend tiptoeing through the door.
Oliver felt a yawn move through him.
Big,
Slow,
Stretchy kind of yawn.
His eyes felt a tiny bit heavier.
Luna,
He murmured,
What if I still can't sleep?
Then you rest,
Luna said.
Resting is a gift to your body.
All you have to do is be still.
Close your eyes.
And let your breath move in and out.
And out.
And and out.
Breathe in… and out.
Breathe in… And out.
Oliver's fingers relaxed around his stuffed bear.
His breathing slowed down.
Slowly.
And gently.
Oliver drifted off to sleep.
He slept the kind of sleep that is warm.
And deep.
And full of the sweetest dreams.
And Luna glows softly through the window.
Watching over him all night long.
The End.
And so,
My dear little listener,
What did we learn from our story today?
We learn that sometimes our brain just needs a little help remembering that it's okay to rest.
We learn that we can start with our body.
Letting our toes,
Our legs,
Our tummy,
Our hands,
And our face be soft and heavy.
And then we can give our mind somewhere gentle to float.
Like on a puffy white cloud And if thoughts come by,
That's okay.
We just notice them and come back to the floating.
You don't have to make sleep happen.
Sleep will come to you.
All you have to do is close your eyes and rest.
As our story time comes to an end.
Remember,
You are loved.
You are special.
You are safe.
And Nana Jojo loves you so very much.
I'll be right here whenever you're ready for another story.
And if it's time to sleep now,
I'm wishing you the happiest,
Sweetest dreams.
Sleep tight,
My little love.
I'll see you again soon.
Good night
